    Isn't "Artist" a better name?

    Heyho,

I love how simple most of the job names are in this game. All of them are easy to remember and imagine what they do. Except for Gunbreaker, which should have been called Gunblade.

    Monk.
    Reaper.
    Astrologian.
    Black Mage.
    White Mage.
    Red Mage.
    Blue Mage.
    Machinist.
Viper. (Kinda sucks at telling you what it is but easily builds rapport over time due to 2 syllables)
    Summoner.
    Ninja.
    Paladin.
    Samurai.
    Dark Knight.
    Dancer.
    Sage.
    Bard.
    Warrior.
    Scholar.
    Artist.

    It just fits!

You can still have it be inspired by Relm (who is an artist by the way) without duplicating the hyper-unique weird ass job name. Necromancer is the only job that's allowed the -mancer title imo because there's no simpler substitute and it's universally known. Even Geomancer is too niche. But if you have an easy substitute - Artist - just use it!

That's my opinion anyway, what do you think?

adding mancer to a word definitely isn't unique in anyway.

sorta like adding a color to the title mage definitely isn't a good naming convention.

i feel just about any name would have been meh while i would have liked something different than pictomancer the other two options were painter or artist, maybe someone else could have came up with a more fantasy esc name but overall the naming options for the job were pretty bad.

"Pictomancer" has been the job's official name in other Final Fantasy and Bravely Default media so I don't understand why they would need to change the name starting now.

i disagree i like it being distinguishable from a normal artist.

they have used the term artist in the msq, its a common term in at least 2 shards for someone expressive in the arts, but not really a combatant.
if anything i think Dancer/Scholar needs a different name more befitting the combat role it actually is

It's odd to me that the names of these two new jobs are what concerns some of the players the most.

It couldn't care less if the job was called Watchamacallit so long as it is actually fun to play and fits the game's aesthetic.

Has any Final Fantasy game ever actually called it "Pictomancer" in the English version? I definitely don't remember Relm being called a Pictomancer back in the day. Maybe I'm just old and don't remember

In the game menu when you select Relm it has her job title "Pictomancer".

OMG, I totally forgot that. Still don't remember it on the SNES FFIII version though. Guess I just didn't pay attention when I was that young.

Definitely not, no. I love those simple names.

Dancers and Scholars are also contradicting your initial statement because everybody knows to distinguish them from normal dancers and scholars. Yet their moniker is easily marketable and doesn't seem too niche and weird.

so then the little ladies day dancers are not dancers or are they dancers? and what about the sharlayan scholars, are they or are they not scholars?
so did Alphy change jobs to artist in ShB? or is that something else?
if you want to argue semantics be my guest.

all in all its a matter of personal taste, and my taste disagrees with your taste.
beyond that its not like it matters, it will be called a "PTM" or "PIC" by everyone anyways.
