That’s what killed it for me, I loved the social side, so when trusts took over and parties died, so did my love for the game
The epic early dunes parties were fantastic

I couldn't even get a party in the dunes to last long enough to level. Tried for 2 weeks then quit. Never got past level 20. No one in the linkshells I was in wanted to help, and trying to make a party that lasted more than half an hour was impossible.
So whenever people tell me how good the social aspect of 11 was, I just think of this experience and shake my head.
And I say this as someone who spent a couple of years really wanting to play the game but not having the ability to. I finally had a chance in 2006-ish and this was the disappointment I was met with.

There's a reason those older style MMOs mostly died out. You're either in the huge wave of players going through the content at the "right" time or you don't have a very good time.I couldn't even get a party in the dunes to last long enough to level. Both a remake of 11 and 14 1.0 are going to show those cracks pretty quickly given how niche they would be and how bad it would be to be a player after the initial rush, when you have to wait hours for anyone in your level range.
I am on about the early days, pre seekers expansion

Most of the 1.0 story was retold via ARR in cinematics, Echo flashbacks and explanations in cutscenes. Most of the fights were reproduced in 2.0 as ARR trials, dungeons and raids. For example, you fight Garuda again, you do Aurum Vale and Dzemael Darkhold again, you fight Nael van Darnus again in the coil raids.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

Honestly I'd like an option just to have the UI stylings / sound effects of 1.x, especially the font.
It's so pleasant to look at.

That is gorgeous. SE just freaked out because the bad parts of the game were SO, but SO bad they junked the rest of it. It was a real tragedy.
It was made on an engine that they couldn't work with which was the whole reason they made ARR.
