SMN lost its DoT spells and BRD’s DoTs were disconnected from the rest of their kit and now seem to just be hanging on for legacy purposes. It would be nice to have a DoT class archetype again but now it seems having multiple DoTs is going the way of pets.

A Green Mage taking from the page of old SMN and Saboteur from FFXIII would’ve been neat and they wouldn’t have had the baggage of handling an awkward pet that old SMN had holding it down from its potential. A supporting caster focused on debuffs and DoTs rather than buffs and acting as a haven for old SMN mechanics that were around for a decade would’ve been neat.

I think the job roster is quite bloated now though and it will be a long while before we get another caster if we get another one at all. I’ll still play Pictomancer and I actually like it’s cel-shaded spell effects, but I’m not as excited for it as I would have been Green Mage and if it’s about as mobile as BLM I’ll probably go back to RDM or SMN.

CNJ/WHM already fulfills the “nature mage” role and the lore book and the AST questline both say Geomancers are a form of conjury and astromancy so I don’t see us getting GEO.

I think it’s pretty likely that BST will get 1h axes since that was their weapon in Bozja and in FFXI if memory serves. Though if it doesn’t, a lightly armored double axe DPS would be neat even if I don’t play it. I just don’t want whips since I feels like that sound will get annoying.
