Yeah, I have a problem with the squishy-squelchy sound effects... I'm worried I'm going to have to choose between an increasingly intolerable sensory problem and having audio queues, or cutting it off to avoid the sensory problem and NOT having the audio queues. My main concern about Pictomancer will be the Sound and Spell effects. Being in a raid for hours seeing those bright colors and specially hearing those spellcasting sounds could drive me insane xD
I have lowered the spell effects to Reduced as i still wanna see some effects, and also turned down sound effects on Party, but not to 0 as again i wanna listen to audio queues. And fear these special sound effects I heard in the showcase will distract me from what the Boss migth do xD As a BLM I am using audio queues as a big factor in how i play.
I hope I am wrong, and also hope those who like this gets what they want. Its just if something become too much of a nuisance for majority of players, they gotta tweak it. They even changed the Sage Job symbol due to it caused Tryphophobia to some people.
… like with the new shading. It will probably look better. I didnt mean that they would make bad quality stuff and go back and make it better for the release lol. But shaders make a huge difference. If you look at reshader mods for the game, everything looks much more HD and better quality and, in my original post i ment that when the new shaders apply on top of the picto paint it will probably look much better and much more aestethic. Atleast i hope so.Why do you think this? It's a brand new asset, and so far all the new assets made for the expansion have been made with the new tools and techniques. They're only "adding" them to the old content, everything they are making now is already up to the new standard from the start. It would make no sense at all to make brand new low quality assets that you just have to go back and fix later.
I thought that was clear lol. Who would think what you assumed i ment.
We all know that caster gear is going to continue to be various voluminous robes with the tradition A silhouette. Doesn't matter that we have now been to a completely different shard and even to the end of the universe, it's always big robes.
Funny how no one is actually discussing how the job might play in favor of kneejerk takes on the VFX based off a short clip
Yes. The effects in general are off-putting and I think many have voiced their opinions on that. If anything, that is the most consistent feedback I've seen since the reveal. You can have paint splotches in a way that's not obnoxious (Bravely Default II manages to, and that game's style is even cartoonier than XIV).
lolno. Have you met my friend, Red mage? The caster gear has always been biased towards BLM's aesthetics since forever and I don't see that changing. BLM will always be Yoshi's baby so no surprise that the gear is more often than not tailored to their style. Would love to see more tunics and shortrobes though if Pictomancer gives them the push to cut back on robes.
Would be nice if there were different brush effects. So that their entire skillset isn't just sloppy splatters.
Somebody mentioned it all looking like something out of Splatoon. You know what? We should call it Splatoon mage. Let's make it a thing, because that's what it is right now.
Splatoon mage.
This is the most insane argument yet because if you have battle effects on, they crossed the line of visual clarity a long ass time ago.Which is what makes the game endearing. I don't care if the mage next to me is in a frog suit or the bard is a big elephant or a tutu wearng Roe. I do care when the Pictomancer is slapping aether paint all over the place with comic book effects and spoopy sounds and I can't see where to place my ground attack or whatever. It's not the player's fault... it's just bad design.
You know how Ninja fails a mudra and gets a bunny on their head? Pictomancer fails a drawing and gets RoseArt LOL xD
Please just stop pulling things out of the hat and just say it-- all of you. You don't like the way it looks or sounds. You had a preconceived idea of what it would be and it's not that. Whatever. You don't like it, let's just say it and move on.
The job is not some kind of threat to the game in any way shape or form, functionally or ideologically, or whatever other weird bullshit you want to bring up because some marketing made you uncomfy.

I think he means because everyone else's effects are translucent lights and pictomancer effects are solid. It does look different from other attacks, but we're attacking with paint if they made it look exactly like other attacks, then what's the difference? If you bring it in line with the rest then what's the difference between a BM's freeze attack and a Picto's freeze attack?
While I agree their attacks look different. I also think that's what beating someone to death with paint would look like. It looks goofy because it is goofy.
