I'd be all for them personally.

However I wouldn't want to get my hopes up about seeing them in any truely authentic manner because they are digitigrade which would be a major issue with the foot slot as is.

From memory, WoW got around this by having the ankle/lower shin and foot pieces being distinct, so you still got the ankle cover, just nothing over the hoof for Tauren etc. I'm dead certain FFXIV doesn't have anything like that so Burm's would either have to have regular legs and feet or would need to have some kind of hard coded variant foot item specific to them for legacy gear as well as potentially unique foot items going forward.

To me it feels like a race that needed the support to be there from the get go to really work properly.

*edit* Bangaa have a similar issue although there is historical art of them wearing regular flat boots and shoes at least.

I would love Burmecians if done properly but unfortunately the FFXIV armor system can't handle unusual body types and Burmecians without the rat legs/feet aren't Burmecians at all.

I probably wouldn't fantasia to one, but Burmecians are cool so players should be able to play as them. However, I 100% foresee shoes being an issue for them, but if they can make shoes for chocobos work then I'm confident they can make shoes work for Burmecians. If they can solve the shoes problem, then they should go for it!

The two aren't comparable at all. There are far fewer chocobo bardings than player gear sets and those bardings have been built for chocobos from day one. To accommodate a rat lower half the devs would have to go back and remodel every piece of foot and possibly leg gear in the game from scratch specifically for Burmecians. That is an absolutely gargantuan amount of work, not to mention the additional workload going forward. It also seems incompatible with the gear modeling tools they explained during the technical panel at London Fanfest.

Is it completely impossible by any means known to man? Of course not, but I can't see them ever deeming the juice worth the squeeze on that one. If Burmecians were ever added they would be a Hyur with a rat head which I don't think anyone would be happy with.

Fair. However, it has occurred to me how they can maybe kinda 'cheat' with their feet: make them like they're wearing stilettos all the time. And then make their hands, and feet slightly bigger -- like within the boundaries of existing armor to make them more paw-like, and maybe see if they can shrink their waist a bit. Adjustments like those could probably get something extremely close.
