Then we are of the same mind. I want the dirt removed from the new males. If the devs are feeling spicy they could just add a nose paint toggle for Viera. Honestly I don't care for it on either.
I also just signed up to the forums to add my voice to the feedback. If they want to leave it up to a toggleable option, that’s fine, but they shouldn’t do away with the bunny nose detail entirely. I also want to echo this point a few other posters have made here; Viera already have so few features to distinguish them from normal humans, which is a shame. All we have right now are the ears and the nose. The nose, even if it’s a small subtle detail, is one of the few defining features we even have of this race.
In the keynote they even specifically stated that they don’t want to change the characters or features too much, because they don’t want them to not look like the same characters anymore. Which is a great and noble goal, but these Viera changes are not in line with that goal at all.
I’m just hoping that the Viera are still heavily a work in progress and maybe they’re still figuring things out. But I don’t want to just leave that to chance without speaking up.
On a similar note, even though this topic is about the noses, I have a similar complaint about the eyes. They’ve changed the shape of the eyes entirely, widening/rounding them and taking away the detail on the inner corners. I loved the shape of the skin at the inner corners, to me it added just a little more “something” to the rabbitlike features. I’m very familiar with the face they used in the example because it’s the same face, nose, and eyes I’ve used on my main. I know the changes are small, but they’re significant enough to me that she doesn’t really look like the same person anymore, which is exactly what they said during the keynote that they didn’t want to do.
Hopefully the feedback here will reach the right people. These changes make me sad![]()
I play Viera and I love the new nose, it seems like they made it more human-like which I really like as they look more natural, I hope they don't revert the changes.
In the worst case scenario they could give us both options because it's not fair to miss the opportunity of better looks.
Viera female's old "rabbit" nose really just looks like some cute paint she got at the local fair to look more like a wabbit or maybe she just woefully forgot to blend her nose contours because it's literally just a texture painted over an otherwise humanoid face (which is what viera are). The aesthetic also just translates poorly to the newer higher quality models. Doing away with harsh cartoonized features that were meant to add depth to the low poly models.
I'm the most content I've been since the initial release of the Viera. Different is not better. Better is better. For the first time since their release Female Viera were given a fair hand and it's being opposed because of predisposed novelty.
Yes they are humanoid but so are the Miqo and they can keep their face stripes and the males still have their cheetah stripes under the eyes? I dont see where, taking away a racial feature from one race is fair, while they said they dont want to change the original idea too much.
You are running off the false assumption that getting the graphical update and Viera retaining a key racial feature are mutually exclusive. They are not. Their graphical update is not being opposed either, another false assumption you're trying to ram into the discussion. Its not harsh or cartoonized or it will add just as much depth to high poly as it does low poly because the poly count has nothing to do with it, its their racial features and the intent of their design. You seem to be making these untrue claims and assumptions on purpose at this point. People are worried that a critical aspect of viera identity is being removed after Viera appearances were already diluted with their inclusion into FFXIV from the other titles.. Trying to play it down with this talk of makeup contours is meaningless as thats not the ingame intent and you can talk like that about anything and everything. The powers of suggestion. Propose a problem first and other will see the exact same problem and defend it in the exact same format buzz words included. Where were you when Viera were given plantigrade feet? Were were you when the Viera weren't given hats? Where were you when the Viera received normal hairstyles? Where were you when they were given an unnatural height dynamic?

Au Ra faced the same thing with the medial rings in their eyes, which the update made far too pronounced. The team listened to the feedback and adjusted accordingly. Infact this might just be a WIP thing, as the note on each image mentions the models are still being worked on.
Its not natural to Viera though. This is like giving Au Ra human ear options alongside the horns. Its not an option because they arent humans, it doesnt work with their entire design intent and identity. Why play a rabbit race if you want humans? Its boring and bland. Their appearance has been diluted enough.I play Viera and I love the new nose, it seems like they made it more human-like which I really like as they look more natural, I hope they don't revert the changes.

I'm begging you Yoshi P please don't take away our bunny nose. It's always been a trademark of the Viera race ever since FFXII.
I do not wish to lose my bunny nose or my eyes. Make it a toggle if you wish, like au ra soulless eyes, but I do not want to lose it. It's very important to my character.
I don't hang around forums too much, but I came to echo the sentiment of this thread - please don't take away our bunny noses. I don't have any super deep thoughts, I just like the detail and would be sad to see it gone.
my main character is a viera, and i'm really sad about this.
i really hope this was a bug that went unnoticed, or is a product of the lighting/shading, but part of me believes it's not. and i know a lot of people are saying "it's probably an option in character creator!" but wouldn't they specify that if it were the case? i really hope this isn't a situation of removing it from the fem models to better differentiate their qualities from the masc models, especially because fem models had it first and it's integral to my character's design now. it just makes their faces look closer to human, which takes away from the fantasy bunny race charm in my opinion. they look less unique without it. i could just play a hyur with the gold saucer bunny ears if i wanted a more human look.
additionally, if it is an option in character creator and it doesn't get put on our updated characters by default, it's going to feel real bad having to use the free fanta just to put the lighter nose shade back on.
definitely will consider a fanta to masc models and try to salvage my character's appearance if the nose tint is permanently removed from the fem models. sque please see this feedback and make changes!!!
