what's up with this Aether Currents? i'm a new player

am i doing something wrong? my gameplay has become very tiring, is there something i'm missing?

But good god, i just finished A realm reborn, even tho people saying is the worst part, i kinda enjoyed and i heard multiple times people saying "it will get better after a realm reborn". During A realm reborn, i didn't felt burnout at all, i played easily trougth main quest and side quests, there was sometimes i played for 4 hours straight without noticing...but now that i'm in Heavensward, i have to take a break everytime i finish a area, because i'm always feeling tired, bored, exhausted to a point that i stop following the story and just wanna finish this thing called Aether Currents asap, and when you finish one you start another one right way, when i finally can fly i can't i have to leave the area. Me and my friend we want to get to the last expantion, but as i am seeing, it will be a hell. I won't give up but i'm pretty sure my friend will, and i understand, even i was feeling playing something else.

The maps are huge, with huge walls and rocks, i often get the wrong path and have to slowly walk around a huge wall to get to another side, i feel that the purpose of this was to force players to enjoy the map, view, story in a slowly pace, but most of the time im looking to the mini map or the other map we have, witch i kept open all the time so i don't fall into a hole, a hill or get the wrong path.

well as a new player, this made my whole experience a lot worse, There is a lot of areas e another 3 or 4 expansion to go trought if im not mistaken, and people warned me that the game would get better after A Realm Reborn, i'm starting to think that they were trolling me, anyway (sorry for my english)

There is a faster way to learn flying,
but it req you to get help of another player with a 2-seater mount -> who has flying.
(There is imgs/videos on the internet that shows all the locations)

Don't believe people are trolling when they say the game gets better after A Realm Reborn. As already suggested above if you're having a hard time traversing the map feel free to reach out in the main cities Limsa, Gridania, Ul dah etc if you need assistance in obtaining Aether currents. Most people are helpful in game.

You still have to finish all the story of the zone before you can fly though, because half of them are given through quests, and the final quest in a zone gives one of them. So it just won't work to take a break from the story to collect all the aether currents, even if someone else flies them straight there.

The game getting better will depend on how much you're into story in a game. This game has a fantastic story even if it gets off to a slow start. If you're not into story, it will be harder to appreciate the game.

On the subject of aether currents, they were originally placed to encourage players to explore each zone. There will always be 5 aether currents per zone earned through quests. Older expansions will have another 5 per zone to learn through exploration. The current expansion has 10 to learn through exploration, though that should be reduced to 5 when Dawntrail is released (then Dawntrail will likely have 5 quest and 10 exploration).

The trick to getting them with a minimum of difficulty is to do them as you progress through the MSQ. The exploration currents are placed along the route of the MSQ (or the quests that teach currents) and you only need to travel a very short distance from the route to get the ones related to exploration. If you wait until after you finish the MSQ for the zone, you'll have to re-travel most of the zone to get them.

I have a spot on my hotbars for my Aether Compass so I can easy use it as I'm traveling from quest to quest within a zone. I drag the icon from the Duty>Collections window to do it (may not be as practical if you're using a controller and cross hotbars). Each time I stop for a quest objective, I'll use the compass before moving on to see if there will be one nearby, I also check the zone quest hubs to see if any of the "blue" quests that unlock features have appeared (some don't appear until after a certain part of the MSQ is completed).

Do not worry when the Compass indicates the nearest current is several hundred yalms away but you can't get to that part of the zone yet. The MSQ will get you there at some point.

Finally, while it might seem like a waste because you're only getting to fly after you've completed the MSQ in the zone you will be revisiting almost all the zones for the MSQ at some point, either later in that expansion's content or as part of a future expansion's MSQ. It's also very useful when you're doing side content such as gathering, FATEs, treasure maps and hunts (definitely need it for hunt trains).

Also don't worry if you feel like you need a break from the MSQ for a bit. The length of it can be pretty overwhelming and there are a lot of other things to do in the game if you're in the mood for something different.

If you do all the quests in a given zone, they will take you near all the aether currents in that zone, so you won't have to run around a lot just to find them.
Used to be that you couldn't fly at all in the early zones, only in the Heavensward and later zones.

It will be faster in the sense that you don't have to go back after MSQ to collect them, ¨
most of the Aether currents are through collecting and blue side quests after all. :P
(Also it's faster to fly with somebody then going on ground, time u could spend doing MSQ instead)

Thank you all for the advices, i kinda notice the Main Quests leads to the current, well at least the bright side is that i i'll be playing in a slower pace as i've been seeing what all you guys are saying this a thing in all expansions, i was excited about the gameplay and got used to fly around and was a huge impact when i coudnt. But would be nice from them to just keep this current thing either on last two expansion or the actual last one, so newbies like me can catch up to the endgame a bit quicker. But overall the game is awesome, lots of things to do.

I think they need to delete aether currents and just give flying once you clear the MSQ in that zone. Remove aether currents from the two optional dungeons too.

Unfortunately the whole "get flying as soon as you leave for the next zone" is normal.

I ended up getting the SDS Fenrir bike from the cash shop, since it was literally tiring being slowed down with every new zone.

The bike mount comes with a built-in speed boost. It basically saved by sanity.
