Simply put three concepts I thought would be nice to see:
A) FATE Participation ranks specifically for when you're out solo or duoing content vs when FATEs are hot and in demand. The reward rate of FATEs is extremely bipolar in that sense, where if a lot participate it's raining down exp, bicolor shells, and FATE Shared levels. Meanwhile if you're alone it's quite slow. Here then the purpose is not to make it so you can't get your tokens for special FATEs because you didn't get platinum or something, but specifically used when you essentially complete more than half the FATE (or 100%) on your own. So now if you solo a FATE you'll get more exp, bicolor, and the FATE will count towards FATE Shared ranking at an increased value.
I don't have a specific number in mind but enough such that you don't feel "welp, this is a bummer- should have done this when it was popular cause now it feels like sandpaper on my eyelids @_@;;;". I personally think it should probably be a little slower than when it's hot, but it should be like 70-80% as useful at least.
B) FATE Tiers is honestly one part QoL one part feature expansion. On the QoL end I think it would be nice to see the scaling of a FATE, and then feature side might be adjust awards accordingly to the above system. This feature can be used as an actual content feature, but is already in the game, hidden, by the way of when a FATE fails the FATE becomes weaker. So now you could see if a FATE was scaled down or not. However, as I said by scaling rewards it would make it also a feature in the sense you might think "hard fate, with platinum bonus- heck yeah!", or alternatively "that FATE is going to be a HUGE pain in my rear, no thanks" and save yourself a lot of frustration.
Feature expanding further would be asking if there could be some way to make FATEs scale better dynamically, this may impact back into the beginning of the request in (B).. since it obviously has implications. But, I would really appreciate if FATEs just did a better job such that I don't often have a "oh! I want to do that!" get there and start the fight to then "OH MY GOD THIS IS GOING TO TAKE FOREVER---zzZzzz" and feel a rollercoaster of disappointment.
A tangent of tiers might be tags. Like a beast tribe tag to a FATE would mean it grants you beast tribe reputation and potentially tokens (might be used in non-current expansion zones). Mutagens could then be added, like swarm tag adds substantially more enemies (and naturally bonus reward opportunities).
C) EXP to Tomes/ Tokens. Like when excess exp turned into gil. Consider perhaps EXP bonus FATEs drop fancy tomes. Normal FATEs drop regular tomes/tokens, etc. (Tokens being bicolor, hunts, whatever).
This could be whole system too like an item, limited per week like the wondrous tails books, such that you collect 'experience' into the item (like spirit bonding almost) and then trade it into an NPC. In this way you could accelerate the value (as it's limited), but also it doesn't create as much of a bot farm potential (as you couldn't just turn on the bot and walk away for hours). If that goes well can add extra layers (like with Wondrous tails, the Ishgard moogle stuff, etc).
