What do we have to look forward to with Dawntrail?

This is a genuine question. I really want to know what you guys are looking forward to and why. Aside from new instances like Dungeons and the MSQ, that's a given they'll be added.

Keep in mind, I'm not trying to star a flame war, but it's clear from my PoV that ever since SB things have been going downhill what with the slow removal of content and lazy simplification and sanitation of things that no one asked for, for the sake of making the developers job easier instead of our time playing more meaningful or more fun.

Given interviews, the current dev team seems to think things are just fine. I was hoping for a shakeup, since it's the "first chapter" for the next ten years, but no.

    Off the cuff:
    • This is despite the horrible class design choices.
    • Despite the fact that there's less content than ever.
    • Despite the fact that the cash shop gets more and more bloated.
    • Despite the fact that artifact weapons are in their worst state ever.
    • Despite the fact that new content is generally weak.
    • Despite the stale raid mechanics.
    • Despite uptime being a meme.
    • Despite despite the fact that MSQ patches are the weakest story we've ever gotten.
    • Despite the fact that the trial series have been cut and just made a part of MSQ.
    • Despite every single person on the planet hating the 2m timer classes.
    • Despite the constant negative feedback and fan outcry from healers to SAM being IGNORED.
    etc, etc, etc.

Even with all of this, I figured, MSQ might still be worth subbing for and doing for a while. Except Ishikawa, FFXIV's most profilic and IMO most impactful writer, is gone and sorely missing.

So what's left? I'm not looking forward to more dumbing down, I'm not looking forwards to more 6.X patch type of MSQ, I'm not looking forward to seeing the budget spent on a ton of more voiced content with famous seiyuus and intricate food animations or "haha fanservice" moments transparently made with the intent to go viral on social media.

So what are you looking forward to? What are your hopes, and are they realistic?

If you're wondering, what genuinely matters to me is that classes are fun to play and have some depth, with opportunities for good players to really shine, and that we have fun "community content" for lack of a better word. Ways for player to interact, activities in which one must team up and do stuff. MMO-like, you know? I thought FFXIV was the full package some years ago, however. Fantastic story, passionate dev team, at least serviceable PvP, and very fun classes. HW 3.5 DRK, MCH, DRG, MNK, 4.0 and even 5.0 SAM, BLM, NIN, etc. I'm looking at you.

On the first note, God knows there's no hope for that. Homogenization has set in and will continue to happen, and the 4 guys working on classes think it's swell. What's left for me is PvP, treasure hunts, deep dungeons, and such silly things. I like competition, I like dungeon diving, and I like getting cool loot with other people. That said, I no longer feel inspired by seeing an awesome player to get really good once more like back in the day and raid to meet new challenges, because to me how fun a class is first, then the encounter design.

And there's also the looming fact that Yoshi-P and "Team A" so to speak are still busy with FFXVI. We're in the back burner, if that.

So if you're down here, I ask again, what do you expect? What are you looking forward to?

Because to me, as it is, we're getting the same product again and again for some years, but lesser each.

P.S: Yes, I unsub. FFXIV is no longer the game I play the most, but I wish it were amazing once more.

With all due respect, I do not see the majority of content as "silly". To you, maybe, but the breadth of activities in FF 14 caters to all tastes.

FF 14 is more than just raid logging, which is one of its key features. I keep seeing this "players should want to get good like the used to"..why? Isnt it up to each person to do what they want?

And there's also the looming fact that Yoshi-P and "Team A" so to speak are still busy with FFXVI.
FF 16 is finished and released..Im not seeing the connection here.

, activities in which one must team up and do stuff.
With all respect again, one cannot force others to "socialise". Im not sure what you mean by this to be honest, can you expand?

    and intricate food animations
    ...um.....Im confused now...wut?

I don't use silly as a pejorative, but it's a small thing hardly anyone partakes in. The dev team certainly doesn't take it seriously either, hence, silly. I would say the latest deep dungeon is proof of that, and the fact I am just dumping pvp crystals on stuff I don't need because they hardly ever put new rewards in. TO BE FAIR, they do seem to be giving PvP a good ol' college try with the revamp. Like I said, it's what I actually like the most ATM.

I said that I in particular don't feel inspired to be the best like before, not that everyone should go raid logging.

Yoshi-P just announced they're working on a port to PC and DLC for FFXVI.

Socialization is the wrong way to think about it IMO. You don't have to get chummy with all your Eureka party members, but you do have to work in a team to get anywhere productive. I think it's the most appealing thing about MMOs, forming a team and kicking ass.

Apart from MSQ and other story content I'm looking forward to savage. Have they confirmed more criterions btw? Really enjoyed the 2 so far so I hope they keep making them.

More wishful thinking would be something like blue carnival stages but for regular jobs. Someone told me that's just mage tower from wow but i never played that so idk how good the comparison would be. My absolute dream would be a proper roguelite mode in this game.

Not sure about after Endwalker, but we are getting one more criterion before 7.0.

The admittedly slim chance that they might kill off or retire another Scion in a desperate effort to finally inject some actual lasting stakes for the protagonists again.

I want to say I'm looking forward to it, but the more I think about it I have infinitely more "I hope" rather than "I'm looking forward to it"

Mainly concerning job design and long-lasting content.

They'll play it safe by not doing anything particularly note-worthy. Things you used to get will be reduced in number so they can introduce a new form of content that is the same as the rest but with some new aspect to grind. You'll get two new classes that have their kit finished at level 50 and the next 50 levels are "new" moves that are old moves with 20 more potency and a finisher every milestone. The patch cycle will shift to being a month later than usual for each, please look forward to it.
