One thing to remember is that this is the internet and a forum devoted to a ten year old game. As such there's going to be agitators who are incredibly socially awkward, shockingly so. It comes with the territory, unfortunately.

I've encountered a number of posters who treat different personal tastes as something worthy of scorn to the point of seeing an offer to agree to disagree as a personal attack. You're never going to get through to such individuals and they're never going to compromise on anything or avoid demanding that you like or dislike what they wish you to.

So rather than request that those individuals do not engage, you need to be pre-emptive - there's nothing they loathe more than to simply be ignored. This is especially true of the posters who forget that this forum is primarily a place to leave feedback and discuss the game, including elements that they may themselves not be interested in or enjoy.
This requires a more collective approach in order to be effective, of which this likely not happen because the internet will always be open for everyone, good and ill-intentioned, the reasonable and discord-seeking. And those who just want to see it all, ready with a pack of popcorn, subtly adding fuel to the fire as well. Drama's one of the oldest form of entertainment, after all.

Personally, I'd rather see a more heavy-handed approach from the forum owners myself, with a stricter moderation and punishments that also tranfers to your gaming account.
Because if you let those people free reign and 'just' ignore them, you empower those to keep on going as they think they won with their 'argument'.

And sometimes, just like in the real world, harsh consequences need to be in place. Even when it means drop-kicking them (figuratively and literally) in order to keep them in line that their nonsense is not welcome nor tolerated here.

There is also the fact the ignore function leaves an incredible amount to be desired in terms of not engaging with certain individuals. All it does is make it so you don't see the in thread posts of someone you have ignored. If the person you don't want to engage with is the type to post threads often, or is a troll who posts multiple bait threads a day. They are still going to be in your face and pushing threads you may wish to actually engage with down the list. So it does ultimately nothing in the end. I also don't personally agree with jumping to the ignore option, because that can lead to just making echo chambers. Because sometimes, sure, you have those who have a more abrasive or even trollish posting style, but they can still make solid points. I said it in the past, Aveyond often made points I fully agree with but they were wrapped up in such a manner that I couldn't take them seriously or it made me disagree because the attitude just rubbed me the wrong way.

Overall, it just comes to a point I've made in other posts, people just need to grow up and learn to have civil conversation. Which is an incredibly tall order. Sometimes you just have to hash it out with someone and bury the hatchet. Moderation would help, it would help a lot in some regards. But I know people who have been heavily active trolls on other forums for years and never seen punishment. Because they mastered how to push their trolling riiiiiight up to the line of the rules, but never cross the line. At which point, it really does come down to the community on how to handle things.

One example I made was if you have a community center where people come to talk, and 6 people come in every day and start screaming the sky is falling for an hour, and the owner of the community center won't do anything about them...it comes down to the community on how to handle them. And sometimes that means showing them the door. I will fully admit, I'm not always the best at practicing what I preach, but I own up to that while doing my best to improve upon practicing what I preach. But parts of this forum and how a lot of folks behave, fall squarely on "Treat others how you wish to be treated." Which I made entire tangents about but it just leads back to, folks need to grow up and learn how to have more civil discussion.

And half (or more) of those people only log on when he/another streamer are around to stalk around the game and seek out their 5 minutes of fame.

I wouldn't really call his influx of people substantial if they aren't actively playing the game without him around.

The game had roughly a little over 800k active players before he came and he only brought 100k max so I don't think he tripled the community.

The cold hard truth lmao, this game is better off without Asmongold's fan base, also he sure as hell didn't triple the active numbers by himself, there was an increase sure but certainly not triple, and the second he stopped playing, a lot of them stopped too.

Yall need to stop giving so much credit to streamers as if this game depends on them to survive, it doesn't, the game was quieter before the streamer/wow exodus stuff but it was in a good place.
