As someone who has been watching anime in its various forms for the last 30 years ... it's just you. Well, it's probably that your introduction to Japanese anime and Chinese donghua has been a bit, um, tilted? Perhaps mostly kid-oriented anime?

I do not consider Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters to be the epitome of Japanese anime over the last 20-odd years.

From my watchlist on Crunchyroll, I present: Bureau of Paranormal Investigation [Chinese], Undead Murder Farce, Moriarty the Patriot, DRAMAtical Murder, Shinobi no Ittoki, Magic Kaito 1412.

From my watchlist on Hidive, I present: The Eminence in Shadow

From YouTube and Netflix [mostly Chinese donghua]: Carp Reborn, the Island of Siliang, A Mortal's Journey to Immortality, Battle through the Heaven, King's Avatar, Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Heaven Official's Blessing, Qi Refining for 3000 Years, One Hundred Thousand Years of Refining Qi ...

Is there a lot of junk out there? Yes. You need to expand your source material, and figure out if you really enjoy Shónen anime geared to 9-18 year old boys. I expect you'd be more into Seinen anime these days. For your own sake, lay off the kodomo-muke anime types (Pokemon, Doraemon, Digimon, etc).

There's a lot of cringey anime. There's also a lot of really good anime. Be discerning and find what fits your tastes.

I can still watch great anime like yugioh and dbz but I feel modern day anime is extremely cringe and I can't even tell 90% of them appart from each other. The all have the same badly designed bland protagonist. Lazy artstyle. Plot narrative and characters who fall so far into tropes that you basically can sort them on there personality in my anime list. Young ppl with no ability to write will enjoy this tripe but older ppl will search for substance and find more in og beyblade than current time anime. I think rn in the state of animes climate I would not want this game represented by it
Actually as you get older the more cringey it is to care about cringe and to unironically believe in cringe and using the term "cringe".

    Who cares

I wouldn't want them to retell the MSQ or various sidequest story lines in anime series.

If they were to make an anime taking place in the world of FF XIV, I'd rather it be a completely new story with new characters...

everyone benefiting? i am not sure how.

i will say i think it would be cool to get an anime and each season is a story arc as seeing the game in an anime perspective in the eyes of derplander would be cool as i feel like an anime could convey a lot of the action in a much better way than the animation of the game can as you can surely tell in scenes that 3d models do not look good with certain facial expressions.

i will also say anime with more views on other characters or story arcs we may not have been able to fully see or got grazed over because of pacing or importance would be cool to see.

There was actually meant to be a live-action with CGI FFXIV TV series in the pipeline, funded partly by Sony and partly by Amazon TV, but apart from jokes about having "lots of chocobos" by executives, apparently featuring Cid in a major role, and was meant to tie into ShB, nothing has come of it (COVID as usual was partly to blame), and as nothing has been heard about it since 2019, I think it's safe to say it's been scrapped alas.

There has been a few short anime OVAs for past FF games however, two single episode ones for FFVII (Last Order, and On the Way to a Smile ~ Case of Denzel), a four-episode sequel to FFV (Legend of the Crystals), a single episode OVA to FFXV (Brotherhood), and an obscure 25 episode TV series from 2000 called FF Unlimited (that had a unique story unreleated directly to any of the games), so there has been FF anime in the past. They've... generally been a mixed bunch though, so I wouldn't hold much confidence in a FFXIV themed one being particularly good though alas.

It's nearly impossible to solve this problem inside the game in its current state, however one thing they could do is release a short anime series summarizing all the important plot points of ARR and beyond. People that find themselves stuck in the MSQ will have an alternative and can waste only a few hours instead of dozens. Not only that, the anime would be a good advertisement. Non-FFXIV players that watch the anime may be interested in playing the game. Square already did something like this with FFXV, so I don't think it's impossible for them to do this.
The problem with that is that it would spoil the game. So people who watched it probably wouldn't try the game.

On the other end, an anime that begins with the civil war in Ala Mhigo and ends at the end of 1.0 would be such a good ad for the game (with Louisoix, Cid and Raubahn/Ilberd as main characters). The WoL would only refered as one of the adventurers, never telling "This is THE WoL", so people can still "insert" their own woL into it (from what I got from 1.0, the "the chosen one" storyline was not so much of a thing).

I don't know why they have not done it yet. It wouldn't spoil anything (I mean, the secret that the hooded guy in the church is Cid is pretty much gone as soon as the character is introduced, and the fact that Ildbert and Raubahn are childhood friends is said as soon as Ilbert is introduced) , and would even make some scene stronger (imagine if the whole series protrayed Ildbert as a good guy, how his treason would feel even worst). And even (most) current player would get something good from that.

And then you do some kind of contest ingame they select some of the players WoL to be the faces of those adventurers in the anime (you put different ones everytime you need some a nameless adventurer). The hype would be huge.

An 8 episode series on Netflix would be nice.

This Final Fantasy XIV manga [https://press.na.square-enix.com/NEW...E-ENIX-COMING] could be turned into an anime: Shiritsu Eorzea Gakuen (Academia Eorzea).

Frankly, I'd be much more interested in a Final Fantasy anime based on the manga Final Fantasy Lost Stranger [https://yenpress.com/series/final-fa...lost-stranger].

Yoshi is on record for wanting an anime but he would insist on being the producer for it and his story team deeply involved. Because of this, they won’t because they are already too busy.
