Idea for Upgradeable Relic Weapons in 2.0

So here's an idea! Not even that an original of an idea.. but an idea nonetheless.

Yoshi-P already confirmed relics will be upgradeable at some point in time.
Wouldn't it be kinda cool if the upgrades worked on sort of a weapon tree system.

Say for example, your Gae Bolg could be upgraded to either a Gugnir or a Zodiac Spear, each of the different options focusing on specific stats (ie. crit attack vs something whatever)

Of course, this isn't an entirely new concept (shout out to monster hunter) but it could be fun for XIV relics.

    Discuss, expand, flame on!

Oooh this sounds awesome! It would be sweet if we heard more types of ultimate weapons from previous and favorite final fantasies as well :O

Think it might make things to tricky if you "have" to choose between one or the other. Perhaps rather than choosing between two paths, the next upgrade of a relic could involve the ability to infuse another weapons essence into the Relic to customize it's stat with the ability to change it if you weren't happy with what your current stats were.
    For example:
    Storm Sergeant's Axe =+25 HP, +20 VIT
    Ul'dahn Bardiche = ATT/ACC +15
    Sibold's Reach =ATT+40 ACC-10

Basically you would have to "spiritbond" the above and then you could turn them into "essence" which could then be infused to said relic that has successfully completed the task to allow for such an option. It would allow relic users the opportunity to still seek out weapons that come out with new content and actually have a use for them, so someone with a Bravura could get the new Great Axe in the Crystal tower, spirit bond it and then infuse it into their Bravura to make their weapon even stronger and unique from other Bravuras.

This sounds a lot like the materia system. If they chose to do this, they could just add special materia that come only from the "crystal tower great axe" (similar to special materia coming from primal weaps). After that they add one slot to the relic weapon, which can never be double-melded, only emptied using the goblin and replaced with a different materia if the fancy strikes you.
