If anyone has continue to advance the system, I think its Blizzard. There is a nice chunk of non-kill quests and the phasing stuff makes it feel like your actions are really impacting the game world.
Yes, they're all pretty derivative, but they also attempt to make progress in at least some areas; be it either combat, or dynamic questing, or open worlds; and ArcheAge probably steps away from the mould a lot more than most games. The point is, all those games have some kind of authoratative stance on their MMO whereas Yoshi just panders to the lowest common denominator that wants WoW served on a platter in FFXIV's skin. Only, nobody actually wants that anyway. Lol.
