But then his posts would just be mangled masses of letters instead of mangled masses of whining.

On-Topic: I like it. I hate grinding, especially solo. Grinding in groups is almost as boring except since I'm a CNJ I just have to spam Cure and Stoneskin rather than Stone, Aero, and Aerora.

Killing monsters over and over offers no particular reward, other than the experience.

If you take that, and give it a purpose - say a quest that gives you more reason to kill these monsters - you can also get gil, items, and all sorts of other things, including bonus quest experience.
Read the guildleve dialog sometime. I guarantee it's the same thing as Quest Chaining in other MMOs, since in other MMOs you:

    1. Talk to NPC, they spout nothingness, tell you to kill 10 Wolves.
    2. You go kill 10 wolves.
    3. You return to NPC, get your money and/or items.

    Guildleves:

    1. Talk to NPC, select your Guildleves, you get a pop up with a story and your objective
    2. Go to camp, initiate it.
    3. Complete it, get your gil and/or items.

    The same thing.

At least with things like guild leves there is a written explanation of why exactly you're doing what you're doing...

Either way, there has to be some repeatable content in a MMO regardless. It's just the way it is. And since SE is so incredibly tight-lipped about 2.0, we absolutely no idea about what exactly they mean by quests.

    Yeah only thing we have to go on is: They want to make 2.0 a "standard MMO", so by quests we can safely assume they'll be low quality sources of exp and nothing more. So enjoy your grand company quest quality while you can ; ;

Why have levels at all than? Leveling is really pointless to be honest in a system like this. Just make it where you learn your skills via quests, there is no point in levels.

It basically said you will level up through doing quests, as long as it is comparable to the XP rate/hour you get now then there's no problem, even if it's a bit faster (like he implied at E3) then that's good too.

Irrelevant. As a matter of fact, I wasn't referring to that at all.

I was just saying that quest chaining (leves included) offer far more incentive than going out and kill random crap in the field for no reason other than EXP.

Point is though, that it wouldn't be a very smart move for them to take out the option. Especially from a group that contains ffxi veterans. If they want to put an emphasis on questing, then that is great. It is just more options when leveling up your classes.

Other games do all sorts of things, good and bad. It doesn't really matter though..

Also, usually most quests are a one time deal. With the armory system that wouldn't be too friendly if they took away the ability to level.. unless of course they added in many repeatables(which could get tedious).

Done right, people will do both, and people will mostly be happy. The point is to evolve the game, give us more than what we had with a better system and world.

no, how so? You get very little story and you grind on mobs. It's the same just hidden.
