Gearing Combat Retainers

Just figured out if I can get my "combat" retainer up to 90 I can use some good gear... IF I can use the Comedy tomes gear (been sitting on a capped amount for months now). I know it's Unique & Untradeable, but can I equip such gear on one of my retainers?

Why would you put tomes of credendum gear with tomes of comedy on retainers? Unless you have bought all you need already, it is useless atm. The cap used to be iLvl 573. Idk if it is still at that but I got them in easy 640 normal raid gear and I get the max materials (edit: I see no difference with ilvl 573 drops).

Quick venture loot table at 573 is definitely different from what it is at 640. I've got enough alts with retainers I'm slowly gearing to see the difference.

If they want to put Credendum on their retainers, there's no reason to discourage it. Their Comedy, it's as good a use as any if they don't need it for their character's gear. It will also give their retainers a bit of a headstart on hunting venture yields once Dawntrail is released. Skins/hides and other crafting items that are creature drops will be selling at premium prices for several weeks at the start of the expansion. Getting 12 (or more) instead of 6-9 back every hour will add up quick.

660 gear will be buyable with poetics when Dawntrail releases. Personally, I will just pass my armor to my retainers at no cost. Atm Comedy gets you 650 and you need an item to get it to 660. You currently get max creature drops at 573 though. As said above, if op has the tomes, it is a non issue. I get distance armor regularly from retainers in 640 gear as well as the newer mats with quick ventures. There is no duty requiring higher iLvl gear so I doubt loot tables change after that (lmk if it drops anything beyond distance armor).

Gatherers are capped at 620 + melds.

Which seems to be the reason the OP asked in the first place. They wanted to make certain they can use Credendum on their retainers.

Exactly @Jojoya, the comedy tomes can only be used to buy gear right now, so why not spend it on my retainer. Oh, yeah I have all augmented tome gear on my BLM main.

If it's all augmented and you want the normal Credendum for BLM retainers, you'll be able to buy it without juggling items around. The one exception would be the ring if you're using a normal Credendum ring along with the augmented Credendum ring.
