There's already been talk in interviews about taking Daggers/knives away from Gladiator anyway. Any current daggers/knives could just be turned into an equivalent sword.

More people need to realize that weapon types can be defined as new classes just as easily as they can be taken away from other existing classes.

It just happened to be the only leftover problem of the armory system I could think of off the top of my head.
I might be the only one but I don't like the armory system that XIV came with...
That's fine but won't it create itemization issues down the line? Do new jobs advance from old ones with new weapons available?
Do they create new classes for every new adv job?

I have to dissagree...sort of, there's gear in FFXIV that have "All classes" labels on them.Judging by that statement right there, I'd say no. The way the armoury system is built classes = weapon types. You switch classes by switching weapons. Not that it would be impossible but any secondary weapons a class gets access to would have to be exclusive to that class, not to mention the jobs by extension would have to have access to them as well. I can't see jobs getting any weapons their base classes don't either, considering you have to go Class > Job. Let me put it this way:
*If Gladiator can use Sword and Greatsword but Paladin can only use Sword, you ALWAYS have to carry a Sword with you if you want to use Paladin regardless of whether or not you use it on Gladiator.
*If Paladin can use Sword and Greatsword but Gladiator can only use Sword, you ALWAYS have to carry a Sword with you if you want to use Paladin since you must switch from the class first to the job.
This is just a design option, any class can wield any weapon depending on design.
A shield can be modified to look like a canoue if so wanted, and wich any class could wield.
Just like Mages can either wield a staff or wand + shield.
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...

It would be a great idea for each class to equip at least 2 different types of weapons. This will make sure that two people of the same class aren't exactly the same.
Like in FFXI, you can see the role of a Warrior in a party from the weapons he was holding.
Sword/Axe and a shield? Tank!
Two axes / Greatsword / Greataxe? DD!

i would like to see a submachinegun kinda like laguna

At first I was mad because the devs obviously don't care/read NA opinions similar to FFXI OF boards.
Then I wasn't.

OP forgot Rapiers. I used to cringe when FFXI characters would use rapier type weapons and swing them the same way they did broadswords/longswords. They'd need their own stance and class, but I'm okay with that.
Also, the Wabbyjack.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
