I want gun versions of all the weapons in the OP. If I can't eventually use a gun scythe I'll quit.

Books can be used as weapons as well for mages.

I would like a pet class that was a pokemon rip off.... I choose you Odin!

Have they confirmed whether jobs will be able to use multiple weapons? For example GLA/PLD can use both Great Swords and Swords. Or MRD/WAR can use Swords, Axes, Great Axes, Polearms, etc.?

Judging by that statement right there, I'd say no. The way the armoury system is built classes = weapon types. You switch classes by switching weapons. Not that it would be impossible but any secondary weapons a class gets access to would have to be exclusive to that class, not to mention the jobs by extension would have to have access to them as well. I can't see jobs getting any weapons their base classes don't either, considering you have to go Class > Job. Let me put it this way:
*If Gladiator can use Sword and Greatsword but Paladin can only use Sword, you ALWAYS have to carry a Sword with you if you want to use Paladin regardless of whether or not you use it on Gladiator.
*If Paladin can use Sword and Greatsword but Gladiator can only use Sword, you ALWAYS have to carry a Sword with you if you want to use Paladin since you must switch from the class first to the job.

While you have a point here... how would you explain the eventual addition of THF or a knife/knives based class when GLD uses them?Judging by that statement right there, I'd say no. I think we, as players, should be a little bit more open to change on the subject of classes & jobs.

Well as far as I know we don't have any specifics on whether or not Thief will come from Gladiator but technically Gladiators can still use Daggers as well which would give them that ability. Still messy though. In all likelihood we may very well end up with situation #2 where we have to carry around a class weapon for the purpose of switching to a specific job.
I originally liked the Armoury system but with the inclusion of Jobs it starts restricting the game needlessly and we could really do fine without it.
My suggestion would be give us some kind of a menu where we can choose the active class and let all classes use all weapons, with varying proficiency. Skills could be kept essentially the way they are now as they either require a specific weapon (not class) or are for all Disciples of War and/or Magic. That way we could pick our class regardless of weapon. Going from there each job could have a specific weapon(s) tied to it since they are supposed to be more focused/full party versions of the classes. This, I feel, would truly bring out the notion that classes are for versatility and jobs are for specification. It's not a perfect system, granted, but I feel like it would give us a little more breathing room than we have right now.
But all that aside as Camate has said, the devs don't want to bring out new weapons without new classes to go with them.
They would have to alter every weapon in the game and essentially remove the armoury system in doing so. Yes, they could make every weapon available to all classes but it would undermine the current system. Shields are listed the way they are because Sentinel used to be a separate secondary "class" that governed shield skills regardless of the primary class used. Shields were only used by Gladiator, Conjurer and Thaumaturge because they are the only classes with 1-handed weapon options currently.I have to dissagree...sort of, there's gear in FFXIV that have "All classes" labels on them.
This is just a design option, any class can wield any weapon depending on design.
A shield can be modified to look like a canoue if so wanted, and wich any class could wield.
Just like Mages can either wield a staff or wand + shield.

@Arcell
I would even be okay with class limited weapons but remove the "job" from the weapon and give players another option for swapping jobs.
I'm really impressed with the crystal equip system for advanced jobs, why not just use that for ALL classes?
As for keeping it the "same" as it was originally designed, I only care about the ability to use any job on one character. Job swwapping whenever is a luxury imo.

Hm, i was thinking more like the raindear outfit thats in 2 pieces but almost covers the entire body.Well as far as I know we don't have any specifics on whether or not Thief will come from Gladiator but technically Gladiators can still use Daggers as well which would give them that ability. Like off-hand weapons / tools dont actually change your job/class....kind of way.
Then again it would prolly be easier to make an Event-class stone to equip for event gear etc wich could equip anything even my fantastic canoue.
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
