A fatal DirectX error has occurred (11000002)

Hello,

I've been receiving the listed error a bit too frequently lately on my gaming desktop. This has cropped up in the middle of certain Duty Roulette fights, if I'm not even doing anything in certain areas, and even in the pic I've posted in Ul'Dah looking at the marketboard.

I do play with DirectX 11, in 1440p, and my computer does go above and beyond the minimum system requirements. I've never had any trouble with the game erroring out like this and then crashing out. My tower is a bit newer also but most games have not crashed out like FF14 has been.

What I've tried doing:
-Disabled all overlays. I do use the discord overlay but I've usually been playing with no programs running in the background too much.
-Did a clean install to the latest graphics card driver
-Checked that FF14 is running as an admin
-Checked other software and Windows is up to date.
-Ran a RAM/Memtest which everything passed (Before I've had issues with MMOs because the RAM went bad)
-Uninstalled, reinstalled the game
-Checked in the BIOS if XMP is enabled but I don't even have the option to use that

I'm just getting to the point where I've done a lot and nothing is really working. I did also google past reports of this error where people said it could be something with G-Sync and FF14 not playing well?? But these were from many years ago. Should I also try disabling that?
I did also check event viewer every time FF14 crashed and kept on seeing the error in the other screenshot. I don't know if it's related or anything and I'm not so familiar with event viewer in general but it's a pattern I've been noticing.

I also do want to note that I have play on an Asus gaming laptop that has a RTX 3700 TI. On my laptop I don't receive this DirectX error, so seems isolated to my gaming desktop.
I can also actually open the case to adjust the hardware if it would need to be reseated, it's a custom build. Just may be a bit tricky because it's a bit heavy lol

We would like to assist with your concern. Please try the following to see if they help:
- Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
- Please be sure to disable or remove the Discord overlay as well to see if this helps for now.
- Disable Full Screen Optimizations. To disable this, please find the "ffxiv_dx11.exe" and right click it and select properties. Then under the compatibility tab there will be a check box labeled "Disable Full Screen Optimizations". Check it and click apply.
- Try to install game on different drive to see if this helps.
- Reinstall the game once more.

As I said I haven't been using the Discord overlay at all recently when these crashes happened. Didn't even have Discord open when the errors happened. Just wanted to clarify that part.

I was having roughly the same error as you. What resolved my issue was installing 2023-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 (KB5033375). I know you said your windows had the latest update but maybe it hasn't grabbed this update yet? Might be worth a check

Got a newer error tonight. I forgot to disable the full screen optimizations but before, still got a direct x error anyway.

Getting a different error this time. This was after reinstalling FF14 to another drive and reinstalling the Nvidia driver.

Edit: I must have been just posting this when you replied: I checked the Windows updates and it does have KB5033375. Good tip though!

is see, you have two troublemakers installed:

Asus Armoury crate/Aura and the Razer drivers. Uninstall them if you do not need them.

And then, it is not really clear which motherboard you have. Can you post it?

Hey, I started having this exact same issue & error the moment I updated my Nvidia graphics driver to version 546.33, which was released on December 12. Unchecking the "Enable G-SYNC, G-SYNC Compatible" in my Nvidia Control Panel allowed FFXIV to actually start up / not be stuck at 5 fps / not error out.


Obviously, this isn't the greatest solution. Uninstalling my Nvidia graphics driver and downgrading it back to version 546.29 allowed me to play with G-SYNC again.

I wanted to follow up on your post with more troubleshooting of my own. I thought KB5033375 had fixed it for me. I played for two days with no crashes but then they came roaring back. Tried a few more things but nothing that was really making sense before I finally tried what I think is the dumbest option ever.

I went into my BIOS and I disabled speed step and hyperthreading. Since I did that I haven't had a single issue with crashing. I need to do some more testing with turning on one and doing more testing but for now I'm leaving them off just so I can play and see if I can get a week without any crashes.

Disabling speed step somewhat makes sense to me because if FFXIV is so prone to OC as everyone says, why wouldn't it also struggle with changing CPU speeds? It's just a theory right now but its one that has let me play again. Good luck on your troubleshooting.

I played a good amount yesterday without any errors. I lowered the core clock on my gpu on MSI afterburner just a bit and it seems to be doing something. Which seems weird but if it works.

I use a asus rog strix z790-E as my motherboard.
