    eureka orthos dilemmas, kupo

    oh, woe is me, kupo.

Id like to do eureka orthos, and queue for it every few days, upwards of an hour, with no one whatsoever counting up the 1/4.

im just starting it, and I guess whomever plays does so at floors 31+

I've tried soloing, and can with paladin, but I run out of time to complete the 10 levels.

    so I'm stuck, kupo.

i can kill much faster on my ninja, but its far easier to die.

how do people get through it at the start from solo?

I need a class thats fast enough, sustain enough.

My advice would be to set up a pf for doing the first 30 floors. Or at least enough to get a little bit of aetherpool.

If you really wanna solo it however.
The best thing to work on is to always be moving. When you start fighting something, fight it while moving to another room. You want to find the exit ASAP.
Pick up all chests except bronze chests. On the early floors bronze chests can potentially be mimics which will take up more time.
Use your protomanders! They help a lot for speeding up. Learn what they all do and use them as much as you can when its useful.
Once you get an Aetherpool Fragment, use it on some Orthos potions. It will help you immensely with survivability.

If you wanna get a way more in dept guide I'd check out Maygi's handbook.

Machinist would be my recommendation for the easiest job. You can kite quite well and always be on the move

This is a problem with deep dungeons generally.

I've tried soloing, and can with paladin, but I run out of time to complete the 10 levels.
I actually ended up soloing it as well, even though it had just released, the queues were not good. I think I probably did it on Red Mage who can heal themselves though. If you die, it's not a problem, you just need to learn the mechanic you died to for next time. Some of them really catch you out, such as Swinge if you are not near the dragon to avoid it, so keeping near them so you can get to the sides helps.

I didn't manage to solo POTD as a healer when it released due to lack of DPS and no aetherpool, but Eureka Orthos was different with a DPS, so trying it as a DPS may help.

It is rough without any aetherpool, so try to get those blue coffers, whilst also being very careful in case they explode or anything like that. You can use the action that turns them to stone or reduces their HP to 1 if there is one of those special bosses wandering around.

Always have some good items for difficult situations, such as turning them to frogs, stone, 1 HP or whatever is needed, and use enemy reduction items for the next floor if you get them. Use up any trap detection or trap removal items if you near cap or get to the last 3-6 floors before the 10th one.

    thanks for the advice!

    RDM might work well.

im nervous setting up PF in general, but might muster myself for this important task, kupo!

you see, i really want the haircut from bronze sacks...

and on faerie and other datacenter servers, people are gouging on what doesnt seem a crazy uncommon drop. they want 2.4M for it, and id rather keep saving for a medium house..

also, i quite like deep dungeons, and this one might be useful come dawntrail.

so RDM it is, and if all fails I'll try making a PF.

automatic queue systems have put me to a ghost, by and large, and the ease is something i enjoy.

for me, you become accustomed to the anonymity, and no longer need to maintain comms as a duty of play, for organizing anyway.

If you're not picky about a soloing job, I feel that NIN is one of the strongest options:
    - It's very bursty because it can reset mudras with hide between fights
    - Hide itself can be extremely useful with skipping enemies and/or fetching chests safely

Make sure to pack up sustaining potions.

    its like ff11 in there.

sometimes they aggro to see you (can ninja hide), sometimes they hear you?! i dont know if they can smell in ff14.

*pants and sips steamed milk and honey with shaved kupo nut... looks for my powders and oil consumables for dangerous runabouts*

if not good enough yet on ninja, tried thrice and became overwhelmed with despair, kupo.

While NIN can be good in EO, the general top tier jobs are mainly SAM, RDM, and MCH. SAM for easy high damage with minimal build-up, RDM for self-heals, and MCH has an interrupt + can kite enemies while moving. Most things NIN can do can be done on other jobs and with higher knowledge of the DD in general (i.e. navigating around enemies to grab chests without aggroing them).

All jobs can clear it solo, but if you're trying to farm for aetherpool and/or potions something with decent burst and self-heals will get you pretty far. WAR is also a good choice for starting for both learning and farming. I know someone already linked Maygi's guide, but Finh also did a good video guide VOD of the whole thing, explaining strategies, enemy attacks, etc.

Enemies have sight, sound, and proximity aggro (all listed out in Maygi's written and video guides). Sight is a cone in front of them, so you can sneak around fairly close without aggroing. Sound enemies will only aggro if you're running, meaning you need to toggle on walking to get by them. And proximity enemies will aggro from any side at any speed so long as you're close enough.

Don't give up, it's not easy to solo and takes practice. Find what works for you and stick to it.

    good news!

I formed a party finder group, and got through to floor 3, kupo!

and... i got the haircut from a sack, which was nice and got used.

turns out the others were like me too, wanting to do it, but having zero success just queuing.

That's good! Once you've got enough aetherpool levels, you can easily solo a lot of it if there's anything else you decide to farm.

I only did 1-20 solo starting with zero aetherpool as a tank. With zero orthos potions it isn't possible with anything else.
But as soon as I reached floor 21, I couldn't kill the orthodrones which self destruct, dps check was too high.
But after repeating 1-10 and 11-20, I got my aetherpool high enough to clear 30. Also red mage made it more easier.
I never did with group. It's a challenge.
Once I clear 30, only then I got farm groups for potions and aetherpool farm
