    Sharlayan Naming Conventions?

Krile has always bothered me because of her name being so different from a normal lalafellin name, so I wonder if there are any naming conventions for Sharlayan people or if Krile is just an exception due to being adopted iirc?

There's no known differences in Sharlayan naming conventions; you're right, Krile has a different naming scheme from other lalafel because she was adopted.

Interestingly, this is a little more obvious in Japanese. Maybe the entire reason Krile is a lalafel is because in Japanese, her name is Kururu. The name of this character originally from Final Fantasy V, by sheer coincidence, is a completely lore-accurate lalafel first name.

Ah, so that's why. Didn't know she wasn't unique to FFXIV, what a good piece of trivia!
And thanks for shining some light on this question, it has been bothering me for a while!

One thing to remember is that there is a difference between race/species and culture. If we want to be truly accurate, it's not that Lalafells themselves have certain naming conventions, but rather that families following traditions originating in specific historical Lalafellin communities give their children names that fit a certain mold.

Which is to say, Lalafells that have Lalafellin names don't have those names because they are Lalafells; they have those names because their parents are following those traditions. In this way, it's no surprise that Galuf Baldesion followed his own family's tradition in naming his adopted child, and simply gave her his last name.

And while I'm unaware of a canon set of parents where one is a Lalafell and the other is another race/species, if such a couple had a child (whether through adoption or procreation), it would make sense that this child could receive a name from either culture's traditions.

The English version of Encyclopædia Eorzea justifies Krile's unusual name by explaining that it's a Hyuran spelling of her forename, despite being a Plainsfolk. This has interesting implications, but doesn't seem to be brought up anywhere in the game itself; though it is not being contradicted either, so you will have for yourself whether to rely on it. (Out-of-universe, of course, the reason being that her name and appearance are a reference to Final Fantasy V.)
