    Bodies and Souls

    Hi there, have a few questions on a subject of bodies and souls.
    I know that resurrecting the dead isn't good so how about making a copy of a body (the soul and memories would be long gone so just a body)? But can you even insert a random soul of a different person into this vessel without being an Ascian or something? And if that is possible, what could be the drawbacks?

    Sorry if this is a weird question, I just wanted to go with origins like that for one of my characters (who isn't Allagan but he is from Garlean Empire) ;w; ;w;

    I'm gonna say probably possible, and any drawbacks or issues would come from incorrect memories, but it's all based on vibe; there's nothing saying it couldn't happen. The drawbacks would more come from the people doing it rather than the inherent concept, though.

    We know that Garleans were cloning bodies, but that was basically as spare bodies for Emet-Selch; there's no indication that they were any good at it beyond that. They had a battery of Dabogs in Bozja, but that was actually surgically altering prisoners rather than cloning. Allag were confirmed to be really good at this, but Garlemald's a poor imitation of Allag.

    Wait so it's possible for someone to take a person and significantly alter their appearance?
    But still, do I understand it right that Garleans can put other souls into empty bodies? Even as an experiment of sorts, in a way.

    Yeah, extensive plastic surgery exists in Garlemald, and comes up in two different stories. In one case voluntary, in one case... not.

    Garlemald hasn't been seen putting other souls into empty bodies, but they also haven't been seen definitively not doing that, and would probably have a general idea that it's plausible thanks to both Emet and Allag. Really, for a roleplaying character concept, that's all you need: you don't need evidence that they do it, you need it to be plausible that they've tried once.

    Yeah, I think that could be enough. Thanks for the help, man!

    Well, there was that soul-extracting technology Aulus mal Asina developed during the Ala Mhigan occupation as part of his experiments into aetherial enhancement (which led to the development of the Resonance procedure), which... Fannyboy and Zenos adopted for their own nefarious ends and used it on the Warrior of Light unwillingly, putting their soul into the body of a deceased Garlean centurion.

    Luckily though, that procedure had severe limitations and only worked for a short time, with a transplanted soul ultimately rejecting their new 'host' and would be forced back into their original body. But it definetely exists.

    Ahh, you're right! I'm not sure how I forgot that part, it was my favorite part of Endwalker. I guess I was stuck on the 'cloned body' as the primary element of 'move soul into a cloned body', and forgot that there was an instance of moving a soul without cloned bodies being involved.

    So that basically gets us even closer to the ideal destination of 'we know they have the capacity to try it, they just weren't good at it'.

    So yeah, I guess what I wanted to do would work. Could be a proof of concept they tried to return to later on a larger scale or something (if I understoof it correctly). Thanks!

    Both the Allagans and Garleans have the ability to create bodies. I actually wonder if the Garleans aren't a failed creation by the Allagans due to them not existing on other shards as far as I've seen. We can also save and transfer memories with crystals. So it's possible to clone your body and since ShB we have to tech to transfer both your mind and soul into the new body...wow, we invented immortality and I missed it.

    We have only seen small fragments of other shards, with multiple races unaccounted for.

    The Garleans' natural home is either Ilsabard or further back Goug in Ivalice, and could simply be lost to the Flood.
