How to make new HAIRSTYLES exciting again

Hey peepz,

everybody who glams in this game knows it: You either make the hairstyle work - which means you glam around your hair and thus are extremely limited in terms of fashion - or you choose a (most of the time short) hairstyle that works (even if ill-fitting) with the most diverse array of possible glams, but isn't ever the ideal choice. The same goes for makeup options and facial markings. So ultimately, you choose one hairstyle and stick with it.

When I see the winners of the hairstyle design contest I can't help but feel a lack of excitement. Why would I care about this new hair when I can't use it anyway because even if there is the ideal hairstyle for one of my glams in there, I would have to use that exact same hairstyle for all my glams, ruining several of them in the process? At best I would find a new inoffensive universal hairstyle but that's not really exciting.

However if we could glam hairstyles and other barber options that would change everything!

Suddenly every hairstyle becomes a new tool for character expression, along with all the other barber options of course. You can finally create the perfect hairstyle, -color, makeup combination for your Gunbreaker and Astrologian and Monk and Red Mage outfit independently at the same time without breaking any of them! Or alternatively for those who have to use universal glams in order not to destroy their one chosen hairstyle you suddenly open up a vast ocean of new glam options!

And it wouldn't even break the lore!

I know it's a difficult problem to solve, but please take the time to make it technically possible for us to glam hairstyles and other barber options and tie them to glamour plates! The game would be so much better off for it ♥

it took me way too long to figure out what you were suggesting.

So hairstyles could be set for glamour plates so when you change glamour, the hairstyle changes as well.

I remember a while back hearing (probably) Yoshi P make a remark to a comment about wanting to be able to link hairstyles to glamour plates. I still want that, even if I know we'll just never get it. It's been thrown onto that pile of 'things' that would be nice to have, and then promptly forgotten about.

I also tend to build glams around hairstyles, so this would be very appreciated to have.

I can't be excited for new hairstyles, official or contest winners, when I know they're all designed with Midlanders and Miqo'te in mind, and that they'll probably make my Roe's head look disproportionately tiny, and even tinnier when wearing a top that makes my shoulders look wider comparatively to every other smaller race.

Yes please! At minimum I’d like to have at least 2 that I can freely switch between… my usual ponytail and another style to use on the rare occasions I want to wear a hat! lol

We are getting a second dye channel for gear, so in my mind anything is possible! The game would just be vastly better if we could glam hairstyles and other barber options imo ♥.

I feel like 80% of the hairstyles are unusable in most gear, a lot of hairstyles really don't consider clipping. I'd much prefer longer hair but everything just clips and looks really bad.
I think the solution would be to first make sure hairstyles are way more compatible with gear or even have options to take certain parts off a gear glam, I'd appreciate allowing hairstyles be tied to glams but I don't think it would fix the actual issue of how hairstyles are implemented.

How to make me excited with any hairstyle, just change au ra earring position from base of horn to a tip or in middle, most of hairstyle just cover au ra earrings glam so there are only few i can choice from

People have wanted this for years and yeah I agree, it'd be awesome.
Imagine ... having a glam plate with a ribbon, and there's a ponytail hairstyle tied to it. So you can wear the ponytail when you wear the ribbon. Crazy, right. Or maybe you wear your ponytail 90% of the time, but you have 1 glam with a hat and you don't like how the ponytail vanishes thanks to the hat. Well now you can attach a "long" hairstyle to the hat glam plate and always be styling.

God I wish this were a thing for everyone, and not just for people who use certain tools developed by like 1 guy in his room for free. It feels so bad how there's gonna be like 2 hours worth of new content between now and next summer, but all this QoL stuff is still terrible after nearly a decade of people begging for better. Maybe in 2024, Square will let more XIV money be used for XIV and not some standalone title that flops, and hire a beefy devteam to communicate with modders and tackle unaddressed quality of life issues hahahahaha *huffs copium* ahhhhhhhhhhh
