Yea it's kinda crazy how the rp duty auto pilot jobs are still a step up from healer gameplay in solo duties.
I like them better than a cutscene but I wish they were more fun to do. I liked Eistenien's on the Imperial Palace but I haven't liked any since.
I have played multiple games with this kind of mechanic and disliked it in all of them. I would rather be playing the character I know and love than fumbling around with a handful of skills I don't know, located on the hotbar in places I wouldn't put them. In FFXIV specifically, I find the RP encounters also tend to go on too long. They don't enrich the story experience for me, generally speaking, and I'd be perfectly happy if they never did another one.
Hate them, don't want them. Wouldn't miss them if they removed them.
I don't want to play as the Scions with a worse kit than a class I can already play if I wanted to, and if this is SE's "selling point" in playing other classes its a dumb one.
You also started these back in SB? iirc and only in ENDWALKER did you allow us to move the skills in a set up we like. Nah. I'd prefer if these were optional along with solo duties or straight up removed. I have single player games that do these infinitely better if I wanted them.
I'm tired of being told to wait for post-patches and expansions for fixes and increased healing requirements that are never coming. Healers are not fun in all forms of content like all jobs should be, they're replaced by tanks and dps due to low healing requirements and their dps kit is small for 0 reason, when in the past we had more options and handled things just fine. I refuse to play healer in roulette come DT. I refuse to heal EXs, I refuse to go into Savage, and I am boycotting Ultimate.

They became far too frequent and lengthy for my taste. As a novelty concept, I didn't hate them per se but I never really enjoyed them either. Unfortunately, they have a propensity to overuse gimmicks they wind up liking. Which leads to solo instances like the Garlemald one, which are downright awful.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
I'm not sure how I feel about them. What I do know is that I feel relieved once I regain control of my own character. There have been some that I really enjoyed though such as when we are inhabiting the body of the no-named Garlean when Zenos takes over the body of the WoL. Thancred's espionage mission brought back some Metal Gear memories, the solo instance against Garuda during the FFXV collab event was really cool, and more recently when we play as Zero. That instance was really well-designed.
Then there are some I could totally skip. Lord Hein's fight, playing as the Twins, Thancred's fight against Ran'jit to name some. I guess they are kind of a hit or miss.
I personally like them. I particularly like when we have to pay attention to the dialogue and do something specific at a given moment, like when fighting as G'raha and using Break on all of Ravana's butterfly mobs. I don't enjoy when they drag on too long, which I feel was the case for Thancred vs Ran'jit, but in general I like getting a different perspective or fighting in an event where our WOL was not present.
They did finally give us the ability to move the actions around on the hotbar (the button on the far right). None of the duties really start until we take action on a target so you can take a moment to move things to where you'd rather have them.
I enjoy them and don't feel they're overused. I agree with the general sentiment that some of them feel like they drag on a bit too long, but I like the idea of getting to actually play scenes where other characters are doing stuff, rather than just... watching a quick cutscene of it.
The ones that try to do at least a little something unique are usually the ones I enjoy the most; I'm not sure I can think of one that tried to do something unique that I didn't enjoy... or at least that I didn't enjoy for a reason related to that attempt. ("Fight went too long" feels like a separate issue, since that's an issue regardless of whether they tried something interesting and unique.)
