    What people in this thread are asking for is a standing stance and/or replacement for Hard Slash that looks powerful and believable, and you can't hand-wave that discontent away by saying "well -I- believe it", especially not if you also believe that the moon is made of cheese.

    Thirty years ago or so when I was practicing karate, I used stances like that, two-shoulder-widths-apart stances in kata. Not "ki" or "qi" or whateverthehell. For actual sparring we'd use a narrower stance, but it's not "unatheletic", and strikes that come from it...well, obviously you think they're fairy dust and moonbeams, but hey, to each their own.

    Since we're in a fantasy world, we can have both realistic and less realistic poses, and that's alright! Personally, I'd prefer a pose similar to what I outline in the OP because it'd be better for me and will tie another DRK animation to Cloud, which is already the case for several of them.

    The biggest challenge to adding new animations is the sheer number of animations they have to make for each job and racial combo. Say we want to have one unique animation added per job, that means that there will be a need to create around 284 new animations due to all of the racial and gender combinations. Each animator can create one new animation per day, so you are looking at around 2,272 labor hours per animation request.

    As you can see, that costs a lot and takes a long time to make. I would love to see more animations as well, but we also have to ask ourselves, at what cost? What do we want to give up to get the new animations? XIV's budget is not increasing, if anything, it's being reduced as a part of the efficiency work in the company.

    That's what I was getting at before my interlocutor ate a bunch of crushed rhino horns and got his meridians all out of whack--the pose isn't that unrealistic, though it is exaggerated some.



    Whether it's good for sword fighting or if people like it is something else!

    another topic about customable animations?

    well how about a menu that lets people change the animations of emotes / stances / skills and other movements?
    since people yearn for more rewards we need also more types of rewards. additional animations for old stuff would be nuce... including different stances and attack animation for dark knights

    If Phantasy Star Online 2 can make every single animation customizable, a game with a even lower budget, a non subscription, from a less rich company (cause both are multi billion rich companies), can do it, why can't we have it?

    Pretty sure we all want our game to be the best there is, the best there ever was and the best there ever will be!
