I mean they do screw things up A LOT, but they aren't scared of completely overhauling a system, even in the middle of an expansion. They had basically done away with Tier Sets, Talents, even sub-specializations (for example, Single-Minded Fury and Titan's Grip Fury Warrior, or Two-hander and Dual-Wielding Frost Death Knight) to then come back with those exact things with a better system than before.

For FFXIV, its always waiting for something next expansion, and even then maybe not getting what is needed (For instance Healer issues Since ShB). Im not sure if the devs have ever said it outright, but I've been told by several people before that we will never have talents, split classes (like SMN & SCH), special effects on gear and the such. Not to be like "WoW good", but FFXIV has pretty much abandoned the idea of having pets, a thing WoW figured out all the way back in the 2000's. We used to have options for our Jobs/Roles, with cross-class and role actions or things such as choosing Selene or Eos for SCH, or your summon for SMN. We still don't have support for Viera and Hrothgar hats for gods sake even with current gear.

They might suck, but they are far from incompetent.

I always find these kind of takes funny.

They're the most incompetent but yet they still have one of if not the largest MMO even after near 20 years. Clearly they're doing something right.

I know they've made a ton of stupid decisions but I'm giving them another chance since they just got bought by Microsoft. See what kind of change that will bring.

It shouldn't. Some mechanics are scripted to target only the player character, and for everything else the NPCs take fixed spots that are probably based on role. It should be a simple enough matter to just leave an extra spot unhandled for each player and leave the players to adjust into them.

yeah, they hit big 20 years ago with, and coasted off the IP that had existed for years and their player base, but somewhere along the way the people who cared left, or stopped caring. i coasted through 3 expansion of "we heard the complaints and learned" only for them to make those exact same mistakes each time.

i feel a majority of whats left of their player base is suffering from sunk cost fallacies or stockholme. maybe things have changed since their acquisition, but i personally have lost faith in them, they used to be "games for gamers by gamers" but that was a long time ago.

Any chance of a change on this idea?
Trusts are originally from FFXI, but FFXI's Trusts can be used in the field or in closed boss arenas and can be used with human party members to fill out a party. WoW doing it too isn't going to change FFXIV's trusts when their own other MMO has had them like that for literally a decade.

Especially since unlike Variant/Criterion, the partner NPC contributes in combat and you can outfit them with gear alongside earning endgame rewards. Only major difference is I think Delves are solo content only, but I really hope CBU3 arent just sitting in their laurels and are actually looking at their competition.

Theres a lot of improved ideas sitting at the table and they need to start putting a lot of FFXIV's content features to make bank for them
I'm sure they're watching. But hopefully they don't jump the gun and go all in just because a competitor is doing something. Not everything a competitor does ends up resonating with their player base in the long run (Torghast comes to mind).

The FFXIV player base also has different expectations from the WoW player base. Even if something works well for WoW, it may not work well here.

Many of them are loyal to the Warcraft franchise more than WoW itself, or they are very into the WoW style of raiding.

FFXIV is no different because it also has its players that are loyal to the Final Fantasy franchise or the way content is made.

But Microsoft is evidently cutting the remaining lingering ties between Activision and Blizzard so Blizzard will be completely independent again when it comes to creative vision. Great if that happened again, some of my best gaming memories come from WoW between when I started mid-BC and Mists of Pandaria. I'm going to keep an open mind but I won't go back until I've seen enough to convince that things have changed.

    I would've agreed until Dragonflight.
I left WoW during the end of Legion after roughly 13 years for the exact same reasons I've now seen happen in XIV, classes being simplified into mindless spam and "hurr durr big cooldown button", niche but interesting flavour skills gradually disappearing from all classes, etc.
I then made XIV my main MMO during Stormblood because it offered me exactly what WoW had lost over the years, actually good gameplay. I had played it long before that but never got too invested simply because WoW was my main MMO.

Only vaguely following the steady decline and empty promises of WoW because as you said, they didn't learn for at least 2 expansions.

Shadowlands however was a big wakeup call for them because they found out that yes, even the MMO giant can bleed.
Dragonflight is by no means perfect but it clearly shows that they're heading in the right direction.

They don't have one of the largest mmo's due to the incompetent perverts at Blizzard right now. All of the people that created the version of WoW people love left long ago. You give them another chance. I wouldn't give them another chance if they were the last dev left on the planet.
