    I would've agreed until Dragonflight.
    I left WoW during the end of Legion after roughly 13 years for the exact same reasons I've now seen happen in XIV, classes being simplified into mindless spam and "hurr durr big cooldown button", niche but interesting flavour skills gradually disappearing from all classes, etc.
    I then made XIV my main MMO during Stormblood because it offered me exactly what WoW had lost over the years, actually good gameplay. I had played it long before that but never got too invested simply because WoW was my main MMO.

    Only vaguely following the steady decline and empty promises of WoW because as you said, they didn't learn for at least 2 expansions.

    Shadowlands however was a big wakeup call for them because they found out that yes, even the MMO giant can bleed.
    Dragonflight is by no means perfect but it clearly shows that they're heading in the right direction.
