Yeah, this is just an idea for a temporary fix until cloud servers are a reality in truth.

Let me ask you? Do you LOVE island sanctuary? That's instance house vibe....so if next inspection SE just allows you to build a house just like current wards....will you be 100% satisfied? All current restrictions will remain, no marketboad etc.
Current Island Sanctuary vibe is not remotely a instance house vibe and I enjoy a lot about Island Sanctuary.
Now SWTOR is the perfect example of good instanced housing. They straight up WANT every player to have their own space they can call their own. And they're HUGE, with awesome decorating possibilities. I've said it before, but if FFXIV had SWTOR housing I would probably sub constantly (cue Emperor Palpatine ironic.gif)

Instances housing would be a failure. It would be lonely, isolating and remote. Exploring wards would be gone and pll wouldn't even buy it. This Is why the devs haven't implemented it.. because it wouldn't work. Ppl sure as hel wouldn't give up there main plot for itCurrent Island Sanctuary vibe is not remotely a instance house vibe and I enjoy a lot about Island Sanctuary.

Yes I am all for this idea, since the current system is not great. It’s not terrible by any means and I do enjoy my FC house and would not want to lose it but it could be a much better system. If you are so worried about players needing to work for houses why not put the ability to achieve it behind certain ranks in any given grand company (with small somewhere low, medium in the middle and larges behind champion rank). This way players have to earn it and work for their larges, and square would have a way to finish GC ranks with rewards that actually matter.
Also while i personally love to have my house on Island Sanctuary (since that would make entire island giant outdoors for my house and let use all outdoor slots, also being a great way to cap off island.) i recognise not everyone will like it, nor is it good idea to put out housing all the way to endwalker. So giving us just a small area where we can have our house is also great but it gives square another way to entice players to do content: background location. Wanna have a house on Carteneau Flats with dalamud in the sky? Run Binding Coils. Wanna have a house in Mhach or somewhere in the sea of clouds? Finish Heavensward alliance raids. Wanna have a house in elysium from omicron tribe quests? Finish those tribe quests. It would be a new type of reward for square to entice players with.
Also I just love how people can request all sorts of things on those forums from mounts and minions through reworking entire jobs to asking for new job quests and field operations like it’s no biggie. But ask for instanced housing and you suddenly “have to explain how square will make money” and “how much other content we are going to lose”. Also how “square earns money from people subbing to avoid demolition”. I want to remind you that demolition timers are essential for ward housing to work properly, so it was implemented. Not because square was greedy. And people who care so much about their houses(so fraction of people who own houses, so a fraction of a fraction of the entire playerbase) just adjusted to their situation.

Ooo those are some cool ideas! After all, if they pull off housing mirage, and remove the pillars at minimum, there would be no need for an instanced house to be bound to any one particular neighborhood style, so things like this would definitely be possible…Also while i personally love to have my house on Island Sanctuary (since that would make entire island giant outdoors for my house and let use all outdoor slots, also being a great way to cap off island.) i recognise not everyone will like it, nor is it good idea to put out housing all the way to endwalker. And really that’s my two biggest selling points for instanced: one, everyone can have a house of their choice and two, they can do so much more with instanced that we could get more and better features!

An article on housing I stumbled onto this morning, had some interesting takes on it.
What interesting take? Keep in mind that was written before Island Sanctuary was released, which answered some of the author's "can't" assumptions .https://massivelyop.com/2022/04/19/w...using-problem/
An article on housing I stumbled onto this morning, had some interesting takes on it.
Regarding "can't" versus "won't", YoshiP has been pretty straightforward with the player base on subjects involving "can't". Can't have access to retainers off world for tech reasons, can't have a glamour dresser in housing for tech reasons, can't have higher member limits for linkshells because of tech reasons, etc.
He's never told us we can't have instanced housing because housing is already half instanced even if you don't include apartments. Clearly we can have it. He's never told us we can't have a better instanced housing system similar to what RIFT, ESO, etc. have because of technical reasons. As far as I know, he's never addressed the subject of instanced housing with the player base at all.
He's also been candid a few times on the subject of "won't". He's told us there are certain things players have requested that they will not do because they don't feel those things fit the type of game they want FFXIV to be.
To the best of my knowledge, he's never addressed the subject of an improved housing system at all, instanced or otherwise, even to say "won't". Now they want to move away from the MMORPG image to a "RPG played alone or with friends", instanced housing is more fitting than in the past.
When does he tend to go radio silent on topics that players continue to discuss for long periods of time? When they have something in development but they don't know if it will work or when it will be ready to implement.
That leaves us back at square one - guessing what they intend for housing and if we'll ever see any more major changes to the system. Barring those major changes, about all we can expect is to see more wards added if there's a large influx of new/returning players in Dawntrail and the current wards fill up in all regions.
Yes, but not if it's completely private, like the island sanctuary.
The same neighborhood should exist, but with just the plots instanced. When on the streets, you'd see random yard instances, and when you click the placard, you can select any one of the instances for that plot to see and visit. (If I build and furnish an amazing house, I want others to see it, not just the ones I party with.)
Since each plot could have hundreds of owners, there's no need for wards either. This should result in much more street activity, since everyone shares the same public areas.
Plots would be priced based on popularity. The more owners one has, the higher the price. This way, you can still afford a plot with no view, but if you want a prime spot, (along with everyone else), you'd have to pay much more. This would spread out ownership.
Not signing the petition, since it wants my name and email address.
