Marking bad players needs to stop

This should be in the megathread "Tales of Dutyfinder. Let's vent". Because if it has only happened twice since HW, this problem is non-existent. Generally that's not even the bad player which is marked, 'cause the marker is used for the good one who can be followed.

This only time I saw someone being shamed (like, really shamed), it was because of an equipment problem. Level 60 weapon in a level 70 raid.

Is this a troll ?

I've seen it a bunch, both to myself and others. It's rude and unnecessary. Just report 'em.

I don't want to be bad. I'm trying my best. I practice my rotation. I look up guides. I only do normal content. But sometimes I'm just...bad.

I've been playing since HW and this has only happened to me twice, but it's so incredibly rude and humiliating to literally put a sign on someone during a dungeon or an alliance raid of all things. If you're good enough to notice that someone is bad, you're good enough to keep an eye on them without a visual aid. You will never convince me otherwise.

It makes me want to quit the game entirely. So what to do?

"Just blacklist them"

Unfortunately SE can't seem to understand that allowing blacklisted players to join you in PF is a bad thing.

...go away.

"Just go with your FC mates"

I'm really only in an FC for the buffs. I have social anxiety so I rarely talk to anyone. Even if I could manage that, do you really think players who are better than me will want to keep playing with a bad player who rarely talks?

I know nothing will come of this post. I guess I just wanted to vent.

so let me get it correctly, you are not good for the content so other need to do your job. this means they need to be not just good bet experts now. somehow they are the problem?
why you need to get the rewards for a content you in no way shape or form can do. why it sound logical to you at all to demand of others to carry you. you can ask for this and if people want to help you then go on, but demanding it ?
as for the "'m really only in an FC for the buffs. I have social anxiety " part. you are a really bad persona. you in a fc yo exploit it and never contribute any thing? this is just being bad as a parson. if you have anxiety , don't go play an MMO maybe? lots of solo rpgs out there that have better graphics/gameplay/story.

I considered replying about how heartless this kind of ableism is, but after re-reading the rest of the post its from, I've come to the conclusion that that would be pointless. It's either a troll or someone who is so misguided that they actually believe any of the nonsense they wrote. as much as I think this is a bit on the edge really and is a bit much, I think the idea of what you're saying isnt bad, I disagree about the anxiety part though, I have anxiety and still play an MMO, but I at least wish to get better when I do content and I dont rely on other people to carry me, but yeah no one should be expected to just be carried because they cant play properly, you are literally not going to get any better, you'll just get carried times and times again and never learn.

It really goes hand in hand with this game and the constant handholding, you are not expected to get better at content, you are expected to stay bad and get carried, and if you dare speak up and tell someone to get better, you become the "big bad wolf"

One of the many reasons why I dont want to do content in FFXIV really, the "normalized" mediocrity is just ugh.

I got kicked out of a raid team back when I was playing WoW because I was underperforming in DPS as tank, I got better a few weeks later and got into a different guild for mythic raiding and I did much better, but that's because I had a wake up call that I was underperforming and I was a problem to the entire group, in FFXIV it's widely accepted/normalized to be bad or mediocre.

I only mark people who do that annoying thing in alliance raids where they just run against the invisible barrier while everyone else kills shit for them.
Hilariously most will try to get upset or angry at you for doing so.

There are a couple take aways from this that you can do:


1. This can technically reach the definition of harassment based on how the TOS is worded as it is similar to blasting x player name and calling them a bad player. Report it, move on.


2. Seems this happens very infrequently since you say you've played since HW which means you've been around for roughly 7 years give or take (HW released in 2015) and it has only happened twice. I get that for someone with social anxiety that can feel pretty bad, up there with being labeled, but in the grand scheme of things if I take into account that most players on average put in about 2 hours/day that means you've possibly run into this twice out of ~5,000 hours of play (low end). I'm fairly sure you've been flipped off, honked at, or labeled more in day to day encounters for seemingly no reason at all. I would equate this to someone going out of their way to cause strife for seemingly benign reasons rather than a firm labeling you as a bad player.
