    2 minute Meta Rework Idea

Since I came up with this idea myself I'm seeing it through rose colored glasses. Therefore I'm putting it out there for public scrutiny and also making my voice heard because I do believe it is a change worth testing and implementing. Feel free to leave constructive feedback I actually do have fairly thick skin.
expand the 2 minute burst meta into 3 Tiers:
-Long Burst (2 minute bursts as we are used to)
-Short Burst (approximately every 45 seconds will be a "burst window")
-Sustain DPS (no true burst window, just always something to do or maintain)

-the easiest group of jobs to categorize would be Physical Ranged DPS. Bard would become the Sustain DPS, dropping their 2 minute buffs in exchange for prioritizing the constant upkeep of their songs and dots as more and more ogcd's come off cooldown. Dancer would become the Short Burst, exchanging their Standard and Technical Step abilities for just a Technical Step (4 steps) that happens every 45 seconds. Machinist would gain a debuff ability not unlike ninja's Mug that would create a big burst window every 2 minutes.

-Casters are fairly simple as well. Black Mage would become the Long Burst, every time they put down leylines would super charge the dmg of their fire, or something like that. Red Mage would be the Short Burst, every melee combo would now have to include some sort of debuff to inflict or buff to enact (maybe triggered upon reaching 50 mana each? Bigger bonus if you reach 100?). Finally, Summoner would be the Sustain caster with a slight rework to make it cycle through different summons constantly like Bard cycles through their songs, removing the Carbuncle phase entirely from their rotation. Blue Mage can just stay Blue Mage.

-Paladin is the easiest tank to make the Short Burst. Every time you swap between Melee burst and Magic burst is a buff window, and it might could even turn into a stance swapping job kinda like Black Mage. or just increase the frequency of the Magic burst so you drop a bunch of holy swords every 45 seconds or so, and make melee just basic melee. Gunbreaker could be worked to be either Long or Short Burst, mainly depending on how you want to handle No Mercy. If Paladin is the Short Burst, then Gunbreaker should probably stay mostly unchanged and become a Long Burst tank. Warrior could be reworked into a Sustain Tank if you make the Rage bar a constantly depleting resource that must be built up and kept up by attacking. You can still spend it w/ Fell Cleaves but you lose your damage buff for a time if you either run out of meter or max out your meter and induce Fatigue. A similar thing could be done to Dark Knight or they could be made a Short Burst in some way. Maybe deploying your double more often for shorter timeframes?

-Finally the Melees. This is the hardest one.

I will continue the post with more ideas and self-diagnosed issues further down.

2 Minute Meta Rework Idea Pt.2

-Finally the Melees. This is the hardest one. Reaper could be a Short Burst job if you slowed down the accumulation of Enshroud meter and made that your burst window. Ninja too could be Short Burst with some retimings and tweaks. Samurai I think should be Sustain DPS, reworking their Kenki bar for like the Focus bar from Vergil in DMC5 (inverse of aforementioned Rage bar, grows overtime and unlocks beeg dmg moves at max but lose most or all of it when hit). Monk can be Sustain too because in my opinion it makes sense, and which leaves Dragoon for Long Burst via some dragon power or whatever. Use a special jump to bounce like a pogo stick for 30 seconds idk. If we're low on Long Burst give Monk a special chant or super saiyan power up every 2 minutes.

Clearly each job would suffer in some way too, but that's kinda the point? Sustain DPS like Bard pull their hair out every time the boss goes invulnerable or some set piece plays out. Short Burst actively dehydrate themselves trying to make sure they have all the resources they need before they realize their burst window came off cooldown 5 seconds ago. Long Burst sit there twiddling their thumbs waiting for their next 30 seconds of happiness to come around. Every job gives and takes something.

Another consequence I foresee is the development of strict "team compositions" which would become stagnant almost immediately. Except, with the current content balance mentality of the devs, this level of optimization would only be necessary for the highest tier of raid team, which are already the group most receptive to "give us one, unchanging way to play and make us master it to a high degree." 90% of content in ff14 can be completed with very imperfect rotations and uncoordinated buff windows as it stands, so an "unoptimized" party comp shouldn't cause problems outside of toxic meta-chasers complaining.

All of this is to create a compromise between the raiders who asked for the homogenization in the first place and more casual gamers who want fun unique jobs.
