Upcoming DEATH of the Raid Scene and Server Fragmentation Woes

Anyone else wary at the upcoming cloud datacentre? If not, you should be.

The ramifications of this datacentre fragmentation experiment are terrifying and could be the death knell of FF14 raiding forever.
Most FF14 players are Californian or west-coast based, which is naturally closer to the motherland (Japan) and therefore should be the centre for FF14 related activity in North America.
As it currently stands, the Californian servers work great. Everybody has good ping, and everybody is together, and able to raid together as they see fit.

Creating a new datacenter on the east coast will ruin this joyful cooperation.
You will have people on the east coast in search of better ping, so they will not raid on the western servers. Due to population differences, there will be a large decrease in western raiders and the raid scene on the west will have fallen.
If western raiders do want to keep raiding, they will be forced to deal with bad ping to US East servers. This is not something we normally deal with, so it will cause major problems within both communities.
Diversity is very important, and having segregated raiding groups will create drama and worry.

Nald'Thal says we must remain In the Balance, but this fragmentation is not balanced at all.

I understand that Hydaelyn sundered the star so we could survive, but I don't think this is what she would have wanted.

I live in Dallas-Fort Worth and play on a west-cost server and have never had significant lag/ping issues.

A look at the falls guy event can tell you that everyone experience bad ping/netcode issues.

I highly doubt adding another server will effect it all too much.

This take was so hot I actually had to log in to reply. As an East coaster, I have very little ping issues. More likely its poor bandwidth causing lag issues. Also, if as you claim, "most players are Californian or west coast based", then the East coasters wouldn't have much effect on your raid scene. Talk about a non issue. No one is forcing anyone to DC travel anywhere, and yet we all still head to Aether to raid. Your entitlement to East coast raiders is nonexistent, and we will raid on whatever server we please.

the cloud servers are a way for SE to finally have cross DC pf and DF so no there will be no fragmentation.

This. It’s only a separate DC for testing purposes, and only for a week. This is mostly backup so we don’t have the 3-hour, 3500 people in queue problem we had with the Endwalker launch.

And had to laugh about OP’s comment that “the Californian servers work great” comment, as I’m on the East US and all of my lag issues come from the NTT nodes in either San Jose or Sacramento. LOL

You're clearly trolling as nobody thinks either of these things and there is a 136 page post with all the problems facing it.

Rather than being in the west or the east it would make more logical sense to just be in the middle.
