    MrHappy's FFXI Event - March of Vana'diel

Hey, I don't think a thread's been made talking about this yet, but yesterday MrHappy put out a video talking about how he's starting Linkshells to facilitate progress for FFXIV people who want to try FFXI.

They're putting the LSes on the Bahamut server. Only stipulations are that you join with a character on Bahamut, and you'll probably wanna join his Discord. He has links in his video description.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore

Yea, it'll definitely be another one I just don't bother unlocking, I'm not paying a sub for another game's story.

Alright, sure, I didn't really understand those stories that well, but the raids themselves were great and I enjoyed them all.

Hopefully they will do a better job of integrating FFXI story into this game so that you don't have to play it. Remember that FFXIV is a themepark that takes inspiration from all the FF games so they do this regularly anyway, like the Endwalker trials.

I'll be thrilled to play it IF I don't have to read up on a decade's worth of lore from another game. If I do, then the raid is just fanservice for FFXI players, and not for me. I play this game for a fun story, not just nonsensical story with combat mechanics attached to them. But I understand that I'm not the only type of player, and that's cool. Not everything has to be for everyone.

They intergraded ff12 and tactics lore into ff14 well without needing to play those games and made those worlds feel apart of ff14. The only series that told a crap story that wasn't intergraded well was the nier raids. There is also plenty of lore videos for ff11 without the need to buy and sub to the game that someone is currently doing for ff11 covering every expansions story and someone else has done lore for all the beast men and other various lore.

That is when the true Vana'diel of legend will be reborn.

I understand what you're saying, but Ivalice collaboration was great. Unlike the Nier abomination, it actually blended into FFXIV lore and worldbuilding to be its own canon thing.

    Ivalice helped with:
    - Establishing Ivalician lore within the world of FFXIV
    - Establish the near-east region of Dalmasca, Bozja, and Nagxia
    - Introduce the creature Ultima, the High Seraph, which has blended into FFXIV lore and has ties in both ARR and EW certain raid series.
    - Introduce Auracites, which could easily play a great role in an Ivalician expansion

If they're going to make FFXI collab similar to Ivalice in which it blends and gives life to the worldbuilding then I'm all in for it. Otherwise if they're going to follow Nier footsteps then please. I beg you stop the madness!

Same, Ivalice felt like a whirlwind of names and places just dumped on you through paragraphs and paragraphs of text, and then being shuffled through set pieces from Tactics and FF12 and feeling like you were supposed to know that boss or that thing that was just mentioned.

I'd rather have something like Shadows of Mhach where it's entirely new to the series but might have a reference or a character here or there, as opposed to Ivalice or Nier, where they just plop another game's world down in the ff14 setting and if you didn't play it you're just lost.

I'd join if they made it "Buy to Play", combined the subs again or relaunched it so that I could play on console. Sorry I know it's a lot to ask but it is what it is, alternative ways of playing this game isn't what's killing retail it's the top level of Square Enix corporate whose decisions are made solely in the interest of making more or as much money as possible. This event would do great if the developers pleaded with Square to allow them to make it more easily accessible. Like are there tech reasons they still have a 2 week free trial instead of just a portion of the game that's free forever? It's weird man.

As it stands currently it's highly probable the trial being 2 weeks is a tech limitation given FFXI is a PS2 era title that didn't even have a trial version initially. Currently however I feel that the game's dated visuals are probably the biggest hindrance to having new players pick up the game. I'm sure a number of ppl here will claim it's UI, however the menu based UI didn't really phase most players familiar with traditional RPGs. FFXI does however require a lot more thinking to play compared to FFXIV.
