What is the coolest weapon type for you?

And why?

To me, is a tie between Astrolabes and Rapiers. Both are usually very good looking, and I really like how the jobs actually use them in combat, especially Red Mages when their casting stance kind attaching the focus to the hilt makes the weapon resemble a staff.

Bonus for the worst weapon:As much as I love SMN, I can't be excited for books whenever there's a new weapon collection out. They're usually either too boring or have way too many attached junk add-ons. There's only a handful of outliers that are actually really good and that's just because of the special effects built in.

I'd be more excited for them if the books, in general, had a simple design, but always came with some sort of aura, or sigil when they're open in combat.

Canes and staves all the way for me. They offer almost endless design possibilities due to very little constraints on fit, function and form.

I do quietly miss the days of 1H cane + small shield on WHM though, it was a neat throwback =(

I wish they'd just convert all 1h wands into just "WHM/BLM arms" - the only difference is where the weapon sheathes - and this would make a handful of interesting models usable once again,especially the FF13 weapons that are still up to this day available in the game store.

Also makes me think if anybody would miss the shield if this would cause it to go away... sometimes I even forget that they're equippable by those jobs at all.

My worst? not sure...I think it's wands. Never have been a fan of those as one-handed catalysts.

For me the gunblade cuz of final fantasy 8, the axe.. easy to make look cool and always looks great with a lala carrying around a big axe, and scythe because who doesn't like being the grim reaper.

Worse for me is daggers, because in vast majority of MMOs daggers end up the size of some swords just so they can have a design to them to the point of I don't understand why we even call them daggers anymore

For me it’s the SMN/SCH Grimoire/Codex. I just love the idea of running into battle with a book lol.

Bonus shout out to harps/instruments as a weapon. Doesn’t exist in FFXIV but it’s been a thing in practically every traditional FF, so anytime I play Bard I always use one of the harp relics for glamour lol.

Worst: I wouldn’t say there’s one I’d define as ‘worst’ lol. Personally I don’t find Black / White Mage staves particularly appealing. It’s a very ‘classic caster’ aesthetic, but personally I prefer casters having more weird/impractical weapons like the book or star globe.

Gunblade, its a longsword that fucking explodes as you swing it, that's cool as hell. Also my monkey brain thinks swords with cylinder barrels look cool as fuck. I'm a fan of firearms in general, so I like a lot of what Machinist offers as well.

My worst? I'd say the books, simply because there's not a lot you can really do for them with either design or animations, I like some of SCHs animations with tearing pages out, but otherwise not a fan.

Something like 2h knightswords, spears and glove-type fist weapons are right up my alley. Too bad you can't cross-class a weapon, that'd be way too cool.

My least favourite are axes (with the exception of Snow's crossover and Ardberd's light axe) and Scholar grimoires - they just aren't my character's style at all

Scythes and not the farming kind. I grew up watching this dumpster fire animated series that first appeared on youtube, and it's definitely why I think scythes are so cool.

I also think that Chakrams have a lot of potential, but DNC glams have it rough because they share role gear with MCH and BRD.
