Rule question - SHOUT for FC Recruitment -Spam? Harrasment? Ignore? Doesn't matter?

Recently I've had some bad experiences from players in limsa lominsa and so I've questioned myself - is there a more approachable way of doing this. I've used the ffxiv community finder/fc finder and fc page recruitment and found no members for my fc...




I've only found member recruitment through shouts and /tell communications. I've been using the SHOUT for FC recruitment in the following areas: -

Limsa Lominsa once a day
Ul'Dah once a day
Gridania once a day

I'll visit the area in 3 mins and post my recruitment speech/invitation in the shout and then teleport to the next area.. All 3x are done in roughly 3 mins or however long it takes me to type up the phrase and then teleport out.

Recently people have said I'm spamming the cities everyday..... it's against the policies of ffxiv rules? But I can't find anything suggesting that.

Just want to clarify, I am not doing any of the following but I do try using the shout for fc recruitment..

So, I'm not harrassing people; I'm not spamming anything such as services or gil for feet pics +_+ NOOO!! I'm simply doing a shoutout for people to join my fc... I've seen alot of people do it and so I started it myself and honestly 3/4 of the people in my fc were met this way. Some are really mentors, some returnees and half are quite literally new to the game.



I just need to know the clarification on this issue? Because if I'm wrong for doing this then EVERY fc recruiter doing shouts in also violating rules and whatever..

(I love the game and play everyday) - This isn't a troll post - but a genuine question.

It's not against the ToS, but Spam is and depending on how regularly you shout it can be seen or taken as spam. It might not get you in GM jail but it will get you on a lot of people's blacklist and eventually you'll struggle to get into groups as they forgot you were on their list over time and what for.


Also it's tacky but to avoid the blacklist problems, shouting through alts is the best way to mitigate that.

Once a day is definitely not spamming or against the rules. If someone doesn't want to see you talk they have the option to blacklist you. They should also consider doing something other than standing in Limsa all day every day if once per day messages get repetitive for them.

If you're typing out your message each time, I'd recommend making a macro for it using /sh in the beginning.

Once a day? Hell, I see those nightclub advertisements spammed more often than that (often for the same club, yes).

Shout away, people claiming spam for that have no legs to stand on.
Like the others said though, you'll most likely be blacklisted by some people.

compared to what is usually seen in limsa /shouts i'll take guild recruitments posts all day long

you are not breaking any rules, people get upset over literally everything in this day and age so if anyone doesnt like your once a day posts just ignore them

It’s covered under “Nuisance behaviour”.

Anyway as others have said, one message is fine but of you do this on a circuit going back to the first town after the last, shouting in each city again and again and filling everyone’s chat box with the same message over and over it can be spam.

Also keep it short, don’t make the message too long. Long shouts spread over several paragraphs are annoying as they push all the other text out of the chat window and can force people to scroll back up if they were in the middle of something (consider that there are other users).

Personally I don’t report but I put people who keep filling my chat box with the same message multiple times on my blacklist (especially those who repost when their previous message is still visible in my chatbox).

Consider using PF in the “other” tab and the community finder on the Lodestone for your recruitment.

Doing the same /shout once per day isn't a problem as such. (Depending exactly on what you are saying of course, but nothing here makes me suspect there was a problem with the contents.)

/shouting the same advert every couple of minutes is annoying spam.


Exactly how often you have to do the /shout for it to cross the line between "fine" and "spam" is a bit subjective, but once per day is guaranteed to be "fine".

A shout once per day is fine. Multiple shouts a day would be fine depending on how you space them (and how annoying your recruitment message is - nobody likes to see three text block long advertisements).
In contrast, most venues I see advertised seem to shout every five minutes, which is anything but fine and ensures I never want to run into those people or their venues. Ever.

The last time I tried to recruit people for an FC I used to do a shout at the start and end of my daily routine, so something like 3-5 hours apart, and never got any complaints about it but admittedly that was long before the community finder was a thing.

You didn't break any rules at all while shouting those message even for days. You only used one message per day which is FAR LESS than any FC i've encountered so far. So respect on that for you.

This is exactly what I'm encountering too on Moogle. And I think that may happen on US Server too.

The interface we have for FC's Recruitment isn't exactly that good. Square Enix could make a revamp of the FC's interface inside the game, just like the "Community". Maybe something like a "research" button but exclusive too FC and with filters like "Number of member", "Language", "Play style"... etc...

The Recruitment page has been useless since the day it was launched. More people visit the forums and the mog station then the community finder..
