Final Fantasy XI accessibility

With the new FFXI themed alliance raid coming on Dawntrail it's weird how hard and esoteric is the process to play FFXI for those who want to experience it, and for how long it has been this way.

Please fix this convoluted process to purchase and make an account, which is harder than FFXIV by a mile and FFXIV is already complicated by normal standards. Not only that but it's region locked on Steam for whatever reason...

Also there should be at least one sort of FFXIV subscription that includes a FFXI as a bundle. Something like the Classic/Retail WOW subscription. Maybe just include it with the Standard sub or at least the 180 days sub. I know the game still gets updates but I don't know if it's the $12/month worthy kind.

The FFXI Alliance announcement has already sparked interest in the game for some online, and it's sure to spark more. It's the perfect oportunity for SE to capitalize on that interest.

Unfortunately FFXI is now officially in maintenance mode (which I suspect is exactly the reason why we're getting a FFXI themed raid in DT here in FFXIV), as a final hurrah for the earlier game), so it's unlikely SE is going to add or change things with it, and yes, it shows it's antiquated nature all too much (remember, FFXI was first released back in 2002 in Japan).

SE actually tried a bundled subscription model for FFXI and FFXIV back in 2010 when FFXIV version 1.0 was released - sadly few took up the offer and so they eventually cancelled it, and so it probably put them off from ever looking at such an idea again.

I'm not sure that's the reason it wasn't continued during 2.0. Both games used to use the same subscription model/system so it was easier for SE to manage both games under a joint subscription. If FFXI's account system could be upgraded to use the Mogstation then it's possible we might see this return.

I also tried to install and Play FF11 about a year ago and I never managed to log in... it was such a pain.
They should really try to find a way to connect FF11 and 14 accounts at this point.

Second, this. 11 is way too convaluted. But to be fair, 11 is about as fun as juggling bear traps. Talk about wheat from the chaff. That game weeds out the sane humans with how bad it controls and how awful the hud and menus are. Oh, sorry, you want people to actually play 11. I'll shut up now.

Got to wonder if Fantasia items would work with FFXI too...
