I doubt they will remove the cap, as I believe they are aiming to push large communities into the Free Company model, keeping linkshells for smaller sub-communities. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

I interpreted it in the reverse way. Linkshells are for large groups, while free companies are for smaller ones.
You can only be a member of one Free Company, but you can be a member of several linkshells. By that fact alone, it should be clear that Linkshells can be larger than Free Companies.
I do think 128 is a tad restrictive.
I guess it is possible to interpret it that way. I don't follow your logic, though. It still seems to me like the 1 free company restriction indicates that it will be the greater force, especially since linkshells will be downgraded to merely a social environment. Sounds to me like the free company is where you'll go to find others for all that 8-man content.I interpreted it in the reverse way. Time will tell which of us has interpreted correctly.
