I think the OP resonates with a lot of other people (myself included) regarding job play in general. Healers are the most egregious, but homogenization is there all across the board if you take the <insert obligatory job gimmick> out.

Although I don't have hopes anymore that the 2min meta is going away, jobs need something extra added during the rest of the ~140s outside of the 2min burst. Most jobs are really boring during that timeframe, sometimes with a thing or two to do at the odd minute marks, but that's about it.

I'm willing to give DT the benefit of the doubt, since it's considered a 'new beginning', but whether or not I'll continue with XIV will depend on what is delivered at launch and maybe at the .1 patch.

I can relate in a way. I'm not as qualified to target specific issues with healers, but I do see them. My favorite job was dismantled in ShB and still have yet to find one that clicks with me the same way. I still enjoy combat content, but haven't settled on one job. If things get any more simplified in DT, I have no clue what job I'm going to want to play.

If Viper's "technically challenging gameplay" ends up just being "You double weave a lot " I'm going to be really, really bummed out... so I'm certain I'm going to be really, really bummed out.

I really doubt the 2 minute meta is going anywhere, so we can already predict with a frightening amount of accuracy how the new jobs will play. It really dampens the hype for new jobs and even new abilities for existing jobs. They will probably be some new oGCD or something just kind of hanging off the original rotation without changing anything about the 2 minute burst or how you build to it.

It is the single most important thing to me in FFXIV that this feedback be addressed.
So was the change in Abyssos where they increased the amount of healing not enough? I'm not a healer main so I honestly don't know.

It has become clear to me that there is no job in FFXIV currently that truly makes me happy and makes me enjoy the game the way Scholar used to.
I do agree that Scholar's damage is a bit too samey. Broil spam + Energy Drain, Energy Drain, Energy Drain, Aetherflow, Energy Drain, Energy Drain, Energy Drain, Dissipation, Energy Drain, Energy Drain, Energy Drain.

What affects it is that Chain Strategem is just a debuff. If it was replaced with attacks it would add just a slight bit more variety to Scholar's attacks.

If this criticism is not addressed by Dawntrail, I am considering leaving FFXIV for good.
I suppose we will see in the third fanfest and the Media Tour a month before release, but so far there hasn't been an indication, other than the general comment that a lot of jobs will get extensive changes.

There are many of you who may think my reaction is extreme
Not really, many people think that, play less or quit because of it. I think SE is actually content for players to just subscribe for MSQ. I'm not saying it should or shouldn't be like that, it just seems like they are content with it and aren't preoccupied with keeping you playing indefinitely like WoW and other MMORPGs.

That's why everyone who sticks around makes their own content out of being a completionist, achievement hunting, mount hunting, hunts, roleplaying, old content or social FC events be they RP or content.

Abyssos' healing difficulty was short-lived and more a result of the surprise to seeing the healing requirements increase at all when it seems like Shadowbringers and Endwalker have done everything they can to make healers heal less. But even if Abyssos was enough to make healing fun there, that's only four fights. I want healing to be fun in the entire game, something I felt was true of Scholar and Astrologian before Shadowbringers. I'm not interested in the "just play savage/ultimate" argument. I want to love healers whether I'm soloing the MSQ, farming treasure maps, running Eureka/Bozja, doing roulettes, progging savage, or grinding out bicolor gems. And that's just not true of healers in these last two expansions.

The point of a game is to have fun. I want "healing is fun." No caveats. No 'ifs'. just "healing is fun" period.

I don't really see what that has to do with my feedback particularly. Job design is a separate discussion to repeatable content.

If this criticism is not addressed by Dawntrail, I am considering leaving FFXIV for good. This is not an overnight decision, but the result of years of fatigue of playing the game and constantly yearning for something that isn't there anymore. This has soured my experience in PVE content, and if Dawntrail does nothing to address those long-standing concerns, I am debating either playing only for the story and then immediately unsubbing

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

Then perhaps I should abandon the game completely instead. There are other games with great stories and fun gameplay. As much as I want to still be a part of this game, perhaps it's better for me to end my involvement entirely if even me playing through the 7.0 story is enough of a success for them.

But what about the players where the current setup is fun? Fun is subjective and they'll never get to a point where they can please everyone. It's absolutely a good thing to give feedback and the Twelve knows I have my own issues with healer gameplay. But you also have to be prepared to follow up on the "or else" side of things if what you're presented with just isn't doing it for you anymore. It's hard to leave an MMO that you've been invested in. I've been there multiple times. I've found that what helps me stay interested in them is being flexible and trying to find the things I do still like when there are changes. It's when we get into absolutes that we're disappointed because the people making these games aren't mind readers and aren't just trying to please us. They're trying to balance things to give these games widespread appeal.

Then they will continue to have fun. Seriously, what is with this obsession with looking at every piece of criticism as inherently a trade-off where my fun has to come at the cost of everyone else's fun? Every time someone brings something up, there's always someone who cries "But what about the people who aren't upset!?" They will be fine.

Not me already bent over backwards on the floor making an arch and forced to walk like an upside down crab being told to be more flexible.
