    Criterion Dungeon rewards discussion

    Criterion Dungeons have been an underwhelming new content introduced in Endwalker despite having the potential to be some of the best in the game. I 'm sure some people in the XIV community dislike most streamers pushing their opinion on here but this video goes over the current state of Criterion Dungeons and Criterion Dungeons Savage and gives some suggestions on what Square Enix could change to make Criterion better in the future expansions, what does everyone think about them?

    Like the reward to get a raid equivalent ilevel weapon is good but with how much other stuff you need for a fresh weapon is a bit discouraging (tomes + tomestone (p10s drop or 7 weekly normal raids) + tome weapon upgrade material (3x Alliance Coins / P11S drop)) and could do with further adjustments.

    Edit: I know you can't get weapon upgrade with coins currently but will be a thing around 6.55.

    I would make 7.x variant be available at level 91 (then synced up to level 100) so players can use it to level up alt jobs. Also, make Endwalker variant be available at level 81 (synced up to 90)

    For those who don't want to watch the video:


    Variant dungeons are ok content. They bring you in, let you solo it, give you some interactive boss fight changes, alternate paths, aren't too hard, and give decent reward for completing. Thumbs up.


    Criterion Dungeon is not ok content. Difficulty ramped up, must complete with group of 4, unnecessary trash mobs, and give absolutely horrible rewards to effort to complete.

    Savage Criterion is not ok content. Difficulty is raid tier equivalent. Rewards are still horrible to effort to complete.


    Q:Who is the content made for?
    A: As of right now, no one. Not even glam hunters.


    How can it be fixed (Criterion):
    1. Make it have effort equivalent rewards.
      1. Criterion gives Horizontal progression options and alternative options.
      2. First NM gives accessory upgrade or accessory token items
      3. Second NM gives left side upgrades or alternative token items
      4. Third NM gives weapon upgrade items or alternative token items. All on a weekly lock out.
    2. Give the gear its own weekly lock out (separate from savage and alliance raid lockout)


    How can it be fixed (Savage):
    1. Complete rework of the following:
      1. Add more bosses, get rid of the trash mobs.
      2. Each boss has an extra mechanic that wasn't in Criterion mode
      3. Allow for raises/remove raise restriction entirely. (You already have time limit enrage)
      4. Add more glam items for clearing or other things like mounts and furniture along with title for clearing.
    Over all conclusion:


    The idea of Variant, Criterion, and Savage dungeon is a great idea. However, the implementation is horrible causing the content to feel lacking in cohesive meaning in the over all player base. The story is interesting, but the desire to complete it, even once let alone multiple times, is not there at all. The reward to effort ratio is completely off. The fact it doesn't really help a player improve gear and is exceedingly punishing for making mistakes means it isn't really tailored to anyone not already a hardcore raider. This means it has no appeal to Mid-core or casual players as they will become frustrated and give up since there is no real reward to complete it otherwise.


    My personal addition not gone over in video:

    This was a missed opportunity for the developers to inter-connect content like they have in the past with Eureka and Bozja and relic weapons/gear. They could have made the Manderville quest line require Key Item drops from at the very least Criterion dungeons, and possibly even reworked some of the difficulty for mid-core players. They could have even made the Key item a chance drop from Variant/Deep dungeon, or item turn in from X number of Variant dungeon completions.

    I agree with most but the above is a hard no. The mobs are usually called "trash" because they are boring. Criterion mobs aren't. MMO players have the tendency to min-max the game part out of the experience.

    It's a dungeon for crying out loud, what would be the actual point of removing a key feature that's been in every dungeon since time immemorial? They already have raids which are glorified trials, we don't need dungeons becoming glorified boss rushes

    I just brought over the points from the video since I'm sure most don't want to go to the video, and it cuts out the 'offensive language' others might avoid the content creator for. Most of them I agree with, some I don't. That is why I also added my own personal addition at the end, but due to a 3000 character limit, I wasn't able to elaborate further than this without doing another post. My biggest gripe is that they literally made content that will not be completed by the majority of the community, and gave no real reason to go into the harder versions for casual/mid-core players. Many missed opportunities to make the content relevant to a majority of the player-base which is causing ire over the fact we didn't get a Eureka/Bozja field this expansion and instead got these dungeons.
