A Request for Craftable Versions of the Paglth'an Sets Without Role Restrictions

I'm a relatively new player (only been playing a few years now) and noticed that two sets in particular that are functional gear (Sky Pirate and Sky Rat namely) were given craftable cosmetic sets that are usable by any and all jobs and roles. I'd like to submit a request that the Paglth'an dungeon sets be given a similar treatment for the following reasons:

    1. Thematically apporpriate.

A lot of these items could be easily mixed and matched with each other or other sets to create interesting new fashions and can work well as glamour for many different roles beyond what they were intended. For example, the casting chest piece works just as well for a WAR as it does the caster it was intended for.

    2. Additional incentive to level up crafters.

A lot of cosmetic items are locked behind expensive, rare, and/or difficult-to-get items. Usually they drop from treasure maps that are inherently RNG dependent. As such, even if one levels a crafting job, one is still at the mercy of RNG or paying exorbitant prices for the necessary materials to craft these items. This discourages leveling crafters, as one might as well save time and spend the money to just buy the finished items from the market board. Having craftable cosmetic items that, while less unique, are more readily craftable with materials one can find and make would incentivize and reward those who take the time to level crafters (and gatherers) while still allowing them to profit from those who do not wish to invest the time and have gil to spare.

    3. Relative ease of implementation.

While I am aware that a lot more goes into making changes to the game than might be apparent to the average person, the fact remains that the assets have already been created and are present in the game to be used by players. So, the amount of time and creative effort needed would be reduced over, say, having to create completely new designs and items. I respect and acknowledge that the devs do a lot of work to make a steady stream of new content while also working on ideas for holidays and events, but I also know they enjoy giving the community things that they want (within reason) and are willing to listen to suggestions that garner large support.

With that in mind, I would ask that others voice their support in this thread so that it might get noticed and passed on to the developers. I know that there will likely be some people who point out problems with my recommendation, but I will try to address the ones I can think of off-hand and reply to any questions or comments that arise in the thread (I am busy, please forgive me if I do not get to you.)

    1. What about other items sets? Don't they deserve a similar treatment?

Personally, I think a lot of sets would benefit from being made equipable by all jobs and roles. It would really give people a lot more room to express themselves and make unique glamours. However, I chose one set in particular I wished to champion. Asking for a lot of sets to be made available is overwhelming. Asking for one at a time is more approachable. It would be nice if they would regularly ask the community for a set they wish to receive this treatment and maybe vote upon it if they have time to do so, but I digress.

    2. The Sky Pirate/Rat sets was a unique circumstance. Why expect it to happen again?

I'll admit, I'm not sure how this came about (I didn't start playing until around patch 5.4), but the fact that I haven't seen any other examples of it suggests it is, indeed, unique. However, we have unique circumstances happening all the time. We've seen Yoshi-P move forward on making certain items dyeable, simply because someone in a Live Letter requested it and got his attention. We cannot know if something is possible unless we try.

    3. Paglth'an sets are from a dungeon while the Sky Pirate/Rat sets were craftable.

While I'm sure this might make a difference in some people's minds, I remain unconvinced. Perhaps the devs might reject the proposition on these grounds, in which case they should say so and give their reasoning. However, I also believe that if there was enough support, they might make an exception. Making the Sky Pirate/Rat sets available to all as cosmetic items was already exceptional. Why stop there?

    4. Why craftable? Why not make them available some other way?

I suppose you could maybe make them a PvP reward or something, but having leveled crafters to cap, I feel like there's something missing from the crafting repertoire. Most craftable items are recolors/dyeable versions of old sets, but they're also purchasable from vendors. Crafting just allows you to HQ them, which doesn't really matter from a glamour perspective. As such, most items that are craftable aren't very special and the benefit of leveling crafting is questionable. (Yes, Paglth'an could receive the same treatment, but we'd still have the issue of them being role restricted. Plus, while dyeing is nice and will be even better once we have two dyes, the recolors can often be lacking compared to the originals.)

The truly special items are either the high-end raiding gear that requires very expensive and specialized gear (along with a bit of luck) to craft or cosmetic items that require luck to get special materials for and often still require quite a bit of gear and/or luck to craft. I don't have an issue with this. The people who take the time and money to craft HQ gear and pentameld it deserve something for their efforts. As do those who run maps. However, I also think that people who simply take the time to level crafting should be rewarded, as well. Hence, items that are already in the game as opposed to new designs, but with the twist that they can now be equipped by anyone. The only thing they would cost is the time it would take to level up the crafting job necessary as well as the time/money to gather/craft/buy the materials necessary to craft the items (and maybe lock them behind a mastercraft book, if you really feel it's necessary) Their relatively accessible nature would encourage more to take up crafting (for those who want to be self sufficient or don't want to spend money), crafters would make money by selling the items, but the prices would likely be reasonable because of the relative ease of crafting them. I feel like it would be an overall beneficial and welcome addition to the game, but that's my two gil. (Also, not everyone is into PvP. This makes the items available to everyone through a medium that almost everyone can interact with.)

tl;dr: Support this thread so that we can get a cool, unique set that can be worn by anyone regardless of job!

You can put everything into 1 post by editing it.
Just a tip for later use.

+1 to this, and make it dyeable! Just make everything dyeable!
I love the Aiming set, but the color and the pants of the Scouting set are different and look better IMO. Scouting already gets Aiming jewelry, no reason they can’t share some clothes! But I’m pretty much in the let everyone wear everything and be able to dye it all camp anyways.

Should also add, they wouldn’t have to make unique sets for this or any other gear, just set the class to “All Classes.” They’ve gone back and done this to some older gear in the past, and it would probably be easier than creating a whole new set that would have to be coded and catalogued.

This is a good suggestion that I agree with but it is also a band aid in the end. The reason being that there's many other outfits that would benefit from this and making replicas of them all would actually increase the amount of items to store in your dresser/retainers/bags as well as the game data.

The final solution is simple: make a glamour log kind of system that saves all the appearances you collect from the items that are bound to you, and to make all gear dyeable except perhaps outfits like Alphinaud's attire. After registering an appearance in your log, you would then be able to use it for any job in your glamour dresser to glam a specific piece or create/modify a plate.

After that, if they want to release recolors of sets like this one, it'd be their choice although considering we only got four entirely new outfits from dungeons in EW (and the Troian one cannot be dyed...), I wish they gave us more original ones.

And the last few reskins they did aren’t dyeable… thinking of the Ktisis gear (reskin of Shadowless from Heroes Gauntlet) and the Distance gear (reskin of Deepshadow, which actually can be dyed if you have the augmented set, but the metal is different on Distance). If you’re going to reuse it, at least make the second version dyeable!

I agree though, I’d like to see more of a glamour log than what we have now. But failing that, I’d be just as happy if everything was dyeable with no class restrictions…

And speaking of Alphinaud, his ShB set is going to be dyeable, so maybe there’s hope for other NPC gear too!
