Sub prices have technically increased for recurrent users for the last few years, why would they suddenly change course now?
Publishers are starting to charge $70 for games due to inflation and the costs of development increasing; there's no way we'll ever get a sub price decrease and if anything I'm just thankful they haven't decided to hike the price. I pay the $13 a month for the lower one and that's fine for me. I would never argue against paying less, I just sincerely believe there's 0 chance SE will ever entertain that idea.
If there's anything I could change about playtime and access, I would say that I don't enjoy the free trial having unlimited access to ARR-SB forever where as I'm locked out of the entire game if I unsub for a bit. Why can't my sub run out and I can still have the same access that a free trial player has? I've already bought and paid for ARR, Heavensward and Stormblood in the past, yet I'm still forced to pay the monthly sub if I want to do POTD? It's a bit annoying to me. If it's because SE is afraid all of the idlers will unsub and just use /say to chat in Limsa, perhaps that means there's not much worth actually paying for this expansion?

I vividly remember paying (well, my older brother paying) $80 for the SNES copy of Street Fighter 2: Turbo, and that was 20 years ago. Something has to give with budgets rising into 100+ Million for large games, I'm sure.Publishers are starting to charge $70 for games due to inflation and the costs of development increasing; there's no way we'll ever get a sub price decrease and if anything I'm just thankful they haven't decided to hike the price. Except big video game companies have boasted about record profits for years. The only problem they have in their finance is the increasing costs of paying executives and shareholders who are contributing nothing and are only taking the money brought in by hard working people who then get struck by mass layoffs.

I think SW:ToR does something similar to this and I wish FFXIV did it too. But then again SW:ToR has instanced housing that doesn't hold your subscription hostage so I can see why FFXIV wouldn't do the same. Why can't my sub run out and I can still have the same access that a free trial player has? SWtoR ftp is dreadful. I consider it unplayable: can't raid , can't get artifact armor, limited inventory and credits plus other inconveniences. And housing on swtor is boring and uninspiring: you can only place certain items on predetermined plates with little to no room for creativity. They could get rid of all my strongholds there I wouldn't even notice.

Well yeah, the point is to at least let us have access to the same stuff free trial players have when we aren't currently subscribed.SWtoR ftp is dreadful.
