The value is that they look pretty and nothing else. If you think they lose value because everyone is able to get what they subjectively like on their character then good, devalue it more by backtracking all the old ones onto newer jobs.

Even taking away the glow, I do firmly believe that to get nice things in the game there should be effort involved. It's an argument that runs way deeper than just the glow itself. Rewards in general, regardless of what they actually are, are just worth less if they are easy to get. Milestones, achievements, progression as a player should all be rewarded with nice things and players that want those nice things should be thinking "Oh, I want to be a better player so that I can earn those things" instead of "Man they should just let me buy those with tomestones."
That's my point.

With respect, I think the only problem here is that your brain is trying to make a connection between "glowing" and "super special". That may have been the case at one point, but we've clearly moved on from that into a world where anyone can have a glowing weapon. And that's a better world to live in, because glowing is something a lot of people enjoy. Let the everygamer have their shinies.
As an informed player, you have the knowledge required to distinguish what weapons actually required some manner of great feat to earn; you don't need to rely on a glowing effect to tell you that.
I think this thread is a pretty clear reason as to why we have so many glowy weapons.
People like it.
People want it.
Um… relics have always had multiple glowing stages, and primal weapons have always had their crafted/upgrade glow. This is 90% of glowing weapons now… theres just more expansions so more weapons. The only real additions are ultimafe weapons and the new criterion weapon. Even pvp and the ilvl110 weapons glowed in ARR. lol
not a fan of glow myself. I wish I could toggle them off most of the time. current MCH relic is perfect example of this
