But nearly everyone knows player movement discrepancy and slidecasting will happen regardless of a player's ping, even if it's 20ms.

I have fiber internet that's been relatively recently installed, and I live next to a server with 1 or 2 ms ping, and I STILL encounter all of the above issues.. agreeing with you (oh, and you probably have seen already that I was the guy commenting on page 26 about being far out of many things and still getting hit, even after accounting for what should have been an estimation in my mind of where my character was on the server's side in relation to where it was on my own screen - there was never any CONSISTENCY!)
