On that comment about Bozja being a better formula: I agree on it.
The community that plays FFXIV largely plays in a solo capacity even during group content and it is very rare to find individuals that really collaborate in content. Perhaps its a cultural thing with the US, but the majority of people that I have met that are doing savage largely view each other as silent bodies that are there to do mechanics. They don't really care about the other person, nor want to engage in any kind of conversation with them even if the fight is complex or difficult. Instead they usually want everyone to have watched a video, read the description, and then silently go on to what they have to do to try and clear the fight. This behavior extended to even situations where the other person was having health issues or even having life changing events: A static that is coming together to clear content removed a player who had COVID and was hospitalized for a week because he missed multiple days: He came back afterwards and then after one day of trying to prog post hospitalization he was removed. Another case that I've experienced personally is losing a family member and then after losing two or three days of prog, got removed from the group.
So the question I've got is why savage criterion is going to be any different from the normal 8 man savage in this regard? If everyone is primarily playing a solo game and just views each other as bodies, which is the nature of this, it feels like the developers are dancing on a knife edge that just isn't worth dealing with. A single slip on the festering wound leads to the toxicity that flows onto the forums and reddit, and those slip ups can be simply making a fight too hard and then not addressing that problem (as with this tier), or giving insufficient reward for the difficulty they have imposed, without perhaps a proper way to deliver what is asked for due to the nature of the game and the balance they want to enforce.
I think that savage and criterion savage are quality content. But I do not think that this content was built with the kind of culture that exists and very few people are capable of handling the content. When someone has trouble handling the content or runs into others that do the complete lack of a social contract causes things to get a touch out of hand.
