I have, as some already know, reformed an old LS from XI, in which I shared many adventures, at the time. Usually I would just sit back, and enjoy the LS chatter, having fun with friends, while at the same time doing events with them, and getting things done. I had my XI buddies, a place to go back to when I needed help, and a place to perform the toughest of tasks with, knowing we would be alright.
I do not get that here, on FFXIV. Thinking back, nearly two years ago, LS beginnings were simple, with new people meeting each other for the first time, old buddies returning to greet each other again from XI and experience the same adventures in XIV, or a combination of the two that grew to know each other and have fun. However, as time went by, this began to change. Some people left, bored with the games structure, with the lack of content, low leve combinations, or just the plain, old, repetitive maps.
And with the departure of so many people, many LS disbanded, or were left abandoned, and remain empty to this day. How I wish my old XIV LS remained together; we may have had a chance at some of this new content. But that is the past, and this is the present. And with this present LS structure we have now, endgame gets even harder. It used to be roaming NMs, in the past. Now, it is Garuda, CC/AV speed runs for drops, good gear attainment, melding for that triple that just refuses to go on, and a large monster most were unprepared for: Relic weapons.
The natural emphasis on obtaining such an item comes in the form on two ideals:
1) Determination--more people need this. Coming up with excuses, such as, "Hamlet is boring," "pfff, I can just get a PuG," "I have plenty of LS. I'll get this done," "These people are noobs; I will never get this done," or "The lag! The lag!" are all worthless excuses. If you are any one of these people, you don't need to be playing this game. And if you do still play, while being one of these people, you won't get that much done.
2) Teamwork and relationships--this one is even larger than the first one. This comes in the form of having a good backbone of people who know each other, have done events together in the past and work well together, and desire the same thing out the game they play together. This game, at the moment, lacks this badly. Sure it is good to have some social LS, but there comes a time where the serious game events occur, and it is time to get the ball rolling, where a real endgame LS, full of your event buddies, is ready to tackle the challenge.
Those two things are lacking in FFXIV. Look at the Relic weapon quest, for instance. The Japanese have already risen above the challenge, and trust me people, it is not because Yoshi P hacked the game for them, or because they have no server lag, or because they have the luck of the Irish. It is because they have those two ideals, and that already puts them ahead of the game. Durandal's Iruka LS, for example, has risen above this challenge, and for the same two reasons as above: because they are dedicated to the game, and desire the best the game has to offer, and because they have remained in the "same" LS since 2010. Again, having a social LS to talk to is fine, but when it comes to events and unity, you need a single LS that can work "together as one" to achieve those goals. PuGs and multiple LS calls will not get the job done, each and every time, and I hope no one believes this is the way to go.
You want unity? You want people who are willing to assist each other for relic, and achieving the best the game has to offer? Desire a LS free from LS hogs, who have every LS under the sun, and call for last minute endgame spots?
