It's a given that there's inevitably some vagueness about certain jobs that familiarity with the game and its history helps explain - we're talking about RPGs, for heaven's sake - but they still do a better job of conveying an impression of the class overall than Viper does, and with more finesse and creativity. I don't think time or history is going to make it sound any less underwhelming, nor is it a title I can see working in any other FF game outside of this one.

    If red mage...
I don't know if that's actually the case either, considering how excited people are for the prospect of a Green Mage job when we already have a Black, White, Red and Blue Mage in the game, and the scant presence and history it has in the series in comparison to the other jobs of its kind. Though perhaps that should be the limit, lol...

FFXIV is not WoW. Can we aggree on that?

The wondering was meant for NPCs but of course they are never going to be written like that even though it would be realistic. In DBZ no character misunderstood if "Vegeta" meant the king of saijyans, his son or the planet.

Will put you on ignore if you can't form a logical argument but argue nonetheless

Its certainly not what I expected for a new job name but if people can distinguish warriors(lowercase as in the many combatant's referred to as this in-game) from Warriors(the specific berserking inner beast job), I don't see how Viper could be problematic for a name.

I have literally never heard someone refer to the players as "warriors". Always "Warrior(s) of Light", "WoL" for short.

Not to argue against the overall meaning of your post, but the axe-wielding berserkers are still "lower-case" warriors. The game text doesn't capitalise job titles.

If anything, it's actually the other way around with the job "warrior" versus the title "Warrior of Light".

Not specifically the player (though the Paladin questline does have Solkazygl refer to the player as a warrior), but I was moreso talking about warrior being a common term for any type of combatant in the FFXIV universe, hence why the heroes of the calamity/the player are referred to as 'warriors' of light.

Then in the Warrior questline the NPC you're with makes a distinct remark about the lost art of the Warriors, which indicates that they can easily distinguish the difference between warriors and Warriors.

My point being, if they can distinguish warriors (as in any fighting man or woman) from Warriors(the job), it stands to reason they will be able to do the same for vipers (the danger noodle) and Vipers (the dual sword and twinblade wielding hunter).

Thank you for the correction! It was more so to distinguish within the context of the post that they're different things, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

The best example of this in action IMO is Scholars, and scholars

I think it’s dumb, but it could make sense when we see their abilities. It could be all snake and poison puns/references. Who knows? But I'm also not an authority on what names things should be called. I've named a hamster Steve.

For the last time: It depends on the writers. Like omg i never argued that the writers wouldn't let them distingiush them. Like ffs you can name EVERYONE "Steve" and then write it like they always somehow know who is meant. I thought that was already known by everyone. My point was rather with how realistic or non-realistic and impractical such a name is.

Idk how they came up with that given the meaning of the word in English and in French when used to describe a person. So cringe. Maybe they should open a dictionary before it’s too late.
