We're used to it now as a term, and had it presented to us when we were already anticipating to hear what a gunblade user would be called. But to an outsider, it's opaque and suggests nothing. If you want to play concept association as loose as "two terms with the word gun in them" – neither of them being real words outside of a Final Fantqsy context – then prettymuch anything goes.

Here, let's make this very clear since you seem to be missing it: I think Warrior is a bad name for a job. The only reason it works and is easily identifiable is it's history in the Final Fantasy series, which is why it works. Viper doesn't have that luxury (and YES, that does matter).

Okay, now that we've hopefully passed that part, if they go with Viper, and choose to have nothing to do with poison/dots and is just the name of the organization of fighters without any more snake context, then yes, I'll stick with my assertion that it's a bad name. I'm still not convinced that there won't be some poison element involved, but I could be wrong.

Viper is named Viper because of its striking speed similar to the animal, long swords referencing its deadly teeth, its behavior of ambushing prey and attacking from dead angles and its lethality.
Poison is a possibility but not a garantee. We have enough to be satisfied with all the Viper references.

Is Captain Falcon able to fly?
Is Batman able to use echolocation?
Is Flash able to produce a Flash?
Is Solid Snake able to bite and poison its ennemies?

If those characters have no problem being named after animal or natural events, why would it be a problem for Viper?

This is such a strange argument. None of the examples have anything to do with job/classes.
