I mean they are also named after old artists and the only job that works with that is pictomancer. So there are some options.
Or the clue in the msq is just the macguffin that leads us too tural. Just look at the pandemonium raid. We get a stone that is just a macguffin for us too check put pandemoniumTurtles are green. And turtles have shells. Yoshi's t-shirt clues haven't been that subtle, they've actually been quite direct. The Red Mage clue shirt was Scarlet Witch. That, paired with the clue in the MSQ definitely leans toward Green Mage. It certainly isn't definitive, but there's definitely a good reason people are seeing a connection.
I would be funny if the MSQ hint ended up being a symbol of something unrelated to the job. I mean, everybody was certain the WoL's job would be corsair based on the aesthetics and a secondary hidden weapon + theme of Dawntrail, but maybe they won't pull a red herring with the possible Green Mage.Based on the huge hint during the ending of 6.5 msq most think it’s green mage now. I’m still on the geomancer train myself. Even though it’s eastern theme in ffxiv that we know about we still don’t know the original origins of geomancy in ffxiv. The lore is allot deeper and yes Genbu is a geomancer and he is a turtle. It can be a multitude of jobs to be honest. I’m still on the geomancer hype. We shall find out on January 7th.
Don't be surprised if it isn't Green Mage, or Geomancer, or Pictomancer, or anything else that's been suggested over and over. It would have to be something so ingenious and original that nobody could ever predict...like Viper, for instance.
"ingenious"? Because random? Can't wait for Fartmage! That's ingenious right? No one suspects it! :P
Will put you on ignore if you can't form a logical argument but argue nonetheless
Turtles are green and have shells. Green Mage casts Shell.
It may or may not ultimately be true but the connection is pretty simple.
maybe the jobs name is 'turtle'.... viper and turtle. animals played a big role in some american tribes right? sll their jobs moght be named after animals... who knows blue mage might just be a localized name
I'm sort of in the green mage boat mainly because of the charm Krile received in the 6.5 quest, but it seems so obvious, no? Turtles being green, turtles having shells, and "shell" being a green mage spell is kinda meh in my opinion. Also, thematically, what would differentiate conjurer and green mage in XIV? (besides one being a healer and a DPS) A lot of speculation for green mage is in the direction of nature-type spells, along with the buff/debuff spells.
I also have a little theory on a psychic job that I've mentioned in another thread. Basically, If ghido was the reference on Yoshi P's t-shirt, ghido from FF5, was able to contact Krile via telepathy. Also, Krile in FF5 had the ability to communicate and understand creatures and animals...maybe through telepathy?? There's also the Splinter theory my friend came up with, which the t-shirt is a call to Splinter the rat, and in FF5, and the splinter Krile received was somewhat significant to the story, so the shirt must mean that (1) krile is getting the new job, and (2) Splinter is based off a marvel character named Stick, who could manipulate life energy and communicate telepathically. It's silly, but I thought it was interesting!
White Mages have also cast shell, and it has been White Magic in a number of games. Since protect was a WHM spell when it was in XIV I would guess that shell would join it in that school of magic.
I think this is going to have some nods to prior Green Mage classes, but on the whole will lean heavily into water/plant magic ala Geomancer/Druid for attack spells.
I think things we will likely see:
* Slamming mallet into the ground as basic skills to "charge" magic spells with aether from the ground. Probably with some earth/plant theming.
* Some magic nukes for the burst phases that spend charged magic, likely Flood and Quake, maybe Tornado.
* Possibly a Bubble buff as a nice little twist on Caster heals, just in a different direction than shields or straight heals.
* Possibly Syphon as a generic MP generator, although imo this is already very similar flavorfully to SCH.
* Possibly some DoT management.
* Possibly Shell/Protect as filler spells.
* Possibly damage/speed debuff spells.
* Spellbound would be a really neat feature to increase burst buff windows.
* Reverse would be an AMAZING way to change up healer gameplay, but would be too difficult to make fair.
* I could even see Bolster, Primordial Zeal, Widened Compass featuring from Geomancer. Maybe even a renamed luopan, if they got really ambitious with the class design.
