No one cautiously optimistic about the East Coast data center?

If you missed it, during the Cloud Data Center Stress Test announcement during the keynote address at EU FanFest, it was mentioned that the physical location of the cloud data center is on the East Coast of NA.

Many around here have been unhappy with ping issues trying to connect to the NA data centers, which are currently physically located on the West Coast.

If you're currently upset over your ping, does this give you some hope that it will be better for Dawntrail?

Assuming they choose not to move exclusively to cloud data centers if the test is successful, do you think they might relocate a couple of the existing NA logical data centers to the East Coast since they have a facility there again?

It will probably make it worse for us from Europe playing on NA, so not much to be optimistic about I'd say.

As for both coasts, they'll just upset the other one and swap the places of both, swapping the upset at the same time from one coast to the other pretty much

I'm not optimistic cause it's just going to be another dead data center while we're all forced to play on Aether anyway. New Data Center, same problems.

I never had ping issues before and I live in the east coast. In fact whenever there was an outtage on a world/data center I remained living somehow through the outtage.

They couldnt even fill Dynamis, and it wont fill in DT either, except maybe for a short time, maybe a few months at most until the population gets back to normal.

An entire new DC will be good news for us housing enthusiasts I guess, but aside from that it'll just be a dead DC yeah. Yet another one after Materia and Dynamis lol, it's like they dont learn a single thing from what is going on, just like when they mentioned last week or so that they are not aware of any imbalance in between datacenters aside from JP, basically implying that it's not a thing that everyone goes to Aether for content.

For some reason it almost reads like everyone has the impression that it'll be permanent, or the concept that we will suddenly be shipped down river to the East Coast NA.

Just a Cloud Server Test that is new characters only, that'll get wiped as soon as the test ends.

As for its purpose, couldn't tell you.
Feels like Emergency Servers incase of overflood/load. Except they're testing before hand where it won't affect long standing character data.

I expect to see the cloud datacenters used to better distribute the servers to have better pings. People can move to a better ping or remain on their server of choice. It will also allow them to open DCs in countries or regions that would prove to be difficult. This could mean a South American server(s) in the future.

I've always wanted east coast data centers but it feels a little to late to me, then again I might let my house get destroyed.

I won't be excited unless it goes live...my ping from NA to EU is too similar to NA to West Coast NA. Seeing more EU players might be interesting though if it heads that direction though...and it will be a breathe of fresh air but if and only if it becomes more accessible. The real reason I think people are not talking about it right now is because they don't know its existence, given that the information hasn't really caught wind.

Also who gives vital information about the NA data centers outside of the NA? This is the main issue. I didn't know of its existence until you brought it up. xD

It will only be worse for EU players if the East and West Coast Datacenters aren't connected in any way. Playing on an East Coast server would likely see your ping be reduced by around 50-60.
Back when the servers were hosted in Montreal, my ping was at a comfortable 105-110. After the datacenter relocation to the West Coast, that increased to 165-170.

But as Remish has mentioned, if there'd be an option to travel between East and West Coast datacenters, everyone would still travel to Aether for content anyway.
