I think this would be the best compromise, and the best outcome for everyone.

But... I'm not very confident that the dev team would implement this (because despite their assurances that they look at feedback and how long they've spent talking about a small change on Au ra horns today, I still feel like so much feedback never reaches them, and because it would mean more resources to spend on UI changes, new character settings, etc etc).

But I also want to be extra greedy and ask: why not add the new limbal ring to each race in that case? Since it's part of a shader, it could easily be added to M'iqote eyes, Lalafell eyes, anyone.
That way that option remains available for Au ra players who are satisfied with the new look, it offers new creative possibilities for other races, and Au ra players who preferred the old version can toggle on an extra "glowing" (or more contrasted) ring on top (since it was a separate model, and not part of the new shader).

This sounds too defeatest. I would eat my words if they didnt listen but if most of you Au Ra players are having mixed feelings about it and provide this feedback I'm sure they'll come to a compromise. They've flippin spent a useless 10 or so minutes talking about the stupid Au Ra horns in a keynote. If that doesnt scream "were dedicated into doing this" I dont know what else will.

Maybe, but the only times I've participated on these forums was to provide feedback or support threads that were requesting information or changes to future features (rip Notorious Monster Slayer you could have been transferred to Eureka), and none of the topics have ever been acknowledged by the community team or through official channels. Then later I happen to watch a Live Letter where Yoshida answers questions from Japanese players while they do an alliance raid, and someone asks for the Fat Chocobo Head to be dyeable, and he goes "okay, let's do it" and it's implemented only a few months later. It stings a little.

Personally I haven't seen anyone complain about the glossiness of the horns on social media (many people have been reacting to the limbal rings by contrast), so I don't know how that feedback made its way to the dev team, but the audience reaction (or lack there of) was pretty self explanatory.

Here's a recent thread of defeatist people trying to give feedback about how hard it is to give feedback, and I am sure there are many more around.
