As they explain in the Technical Art panel, the ring used to be a separate model from the iris (what they call "polygons"), and after the update it will be a shader (a parameter in the material on which the iris texture is on). They're 2 completely different techniques and can be combined together, there's no need to lower graphical settings.

Little concerned after finally getting a look at the slides, my girl has really glowy limbals because I like the contrast. If I wanted natural looking eyes I would have forgone the liminal rings :c

This is easily solved by a luminosity slider. All they need to do is add that and you can make any color dull or neon

Would be so good to have this option for other characters too.

I wouldn't put it past SE to have accidentally compared different things. Perhaps they intentionally wanted to show contrasting vs complimenting options. Or perhaps they made a mistake because they just couldn't remember what character creator options they used!
I'd be willing to believe this if the exact same thing didn't happen to the male au ra later on when they show off armor materials

I think regardless of how natural the limbal ring looks now, I prefer the glow for my character as I designed my character with that glow in mind and grew to love it even more as time went. The idea behind the update is to make things look better but not have players lose the core essences of character's looks. If people such as I and others prefer to have the glow for the sake of our look for the characters, I'd say allow for players to adjust/customize the ability for those rings to glow and how brightly/frequently rather then adjusting it to a single standard that is dividing Au Ra enjoyers.

This might also warrant the need for a free fantasia for this transition, if it is this divided.
