One way to get people to commit to paying both subs would be to offer the FFXI bundle only with a 6 month or longer subscription. Thus, you ensure people are paying up front.

....You know what? Yeah, I could get onboard with this. I've been missing the old game lately.

I'm currently playing both FFXI and FFXIV and have many friends who have told me they're waiting for the joint subscription model to become a thing before getting involved in FFXI, so I believe it could be to SE's benefit to have implemented. Sadly I didn't get the chance to bring the idea to YoshiP at FanFest this year.
I'm also aware that back when this promotion existed during the FFXIV 1.X time, that both games were using FFXI's subscription model. Since FFXIV 2.0 (ARR) onwards, the game moved to another subscription model/backend structure which has since made it harder to combine the subscriptions. I'm hoping as part of this change FFXI's system can be modernised to some degree to allow that combined option to come back.

Agreed. They should make a classic server while they're at it.

I only played XI for a bit during some free trail promotion that I think lasted longer than 2 weeks, but who can remember. Anyway since then I have had an interest, especially in SCH since it plays so versatile and has a lot of support potential which is what I crave in a game, but not enough to warrant paying another subscription fee. There is also the whole having to deal with PlayOnline which is a dumpster fire if that is still how they are handling the online subscription to XI.
Very much agree. I think it's one of those missed opportunities that could make them money. Not sure I'd sub FFXI for $15 a month, but +$5 to my FFXIV for something to do during downtime? Now that I might be able to justify. It's less old school with the trusts now, but honestly, I'd still give it a whirl. I liked the free trial when I tried it a year or so ago.
And there's basically no better time to do it than the 20 year event + a FFXIV crossover raid.
1000% support this idea!

Sure, I'd like to see this happen. I'd give FFXI a go if they did. I'd also like to see Nintendo stop making hardware entirely and just become a game developer/publisher.
They might make more money doing it, or they might make less. It's speculation either way, but for whatever reason both companies make the decisions they do according to how they think they can make the most money.
Meanwhile, both Xbox and Playstation have comparably priced subscriptions that let you basically play ALL THE GAMES with a few time-gated exceptions. Seems pretty silly for Square Enix to quibble over letting us play two MMOs under one sub fee, especially considering one of them is an ancient PS2 title they don't even update anymore.
Id play 11 if they combined the sub.

I think this is extremely unlikely, barring some sort of remaster/re-release or integrated content with FFXIV, which might also include a price hike in the subscription rate. Which...is almost never a good idea no matter how much extra things they tack on to a FFXIV subscription.
But all that said, I still would be in the target demographic that would appreciate and utilize.
I can definitely confirm that I'd play ff11 in a heartbeat if this was the case. Most people dont do subs simultaneously, and they'd still have to actually BUY ff11 if they didnt already, so I don't think it would really lose them money.
